I was taught to capitalize! I still capitalize it, just like I capitalize the names of the planets. I'm so sick of seeing "earth" and not Earth I could scream. I'll capitalize, nothing is going to make me change my mind.

Languages (and styles) are living things and like all living things they evolve even though that might send old fogies like me bananas.
There was a time when they beginning of sentences were not necessarily capitalised. It wasn't so long ago that every noun was capitalised. When I started work, words like government were capitalised and now they aren't unless you refer to a particular one like the Federal Government'.
As a child, I capitalised the seasons and I'm sad to see that go because I love giving those particular 3 month a title that deserves a capital but, no, they are now only lower case.

Don't capitalize the names of seasons when they are used generally (capitalize seasons when they are used with another noun and thus function as proper nouns):
ie. will go to school in the spring...
will go to school Spring term

No! They do not begin with a capital letter, except for the normal place at the beginning of a sentence.
Ex: Come fall, the leaves sweep gently to the ground. He loved this autumn time, when the cool breezes blew.
Summer was a good time for tanning.

Nope. Small letters are used for these..
Here are the rulings for capitalization of holidays, events and season:
***Days of the week, months of the year and most holidays are capitalized same as for geological periods such as Jurassic Period and Late Cretaceous. Only seasons of the year are not included.
