Let us go back to 1996 when it was HBK holding the WWF (at the time) together. They had lost all of its big stars Nash, Hogan, Hall and so on.
It looked like the WWF was done, going out of business. But a strong champ, HBK, put everything into his matches. He was great.
I did not realize at the time how special he was. He gave effort like no other before him. He went through tables, bled, and still night and night came back to give us more.
He broke his back for us against the Undertaker Jan 1998, Royal Rumble. He still went at Wrestlemania obviously hurting. He kept away for 4 years and returned as determined as ever. Better, no, but still great.
No wrestler out there except Flair and HHH have given as much to us the fan. We demand so much and time after time they delivered.
I highly recommend getting some of the old stuff from 1996. You will understand why.

OK, the Montreal Screwjob. That's why some people doesn't like HBK. However, looking at the Transition era [between the Hogan era and the Attitude era] (sorry guys, the best DX were without HBK when he "disappear" after WrestleMania XIV), who's the guys who made that era, who carries the flag of that era? That's right, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. HBK's role in the Screwjob may vilified him, but wasn't a excuse to unrecognizing one of the best wrestlers of all time.

Shawn Michaels, and more importantly, DX represents the last bastions of the "Attitude Era". If you weren't a fan back then, there is no way to explain why Michaels is so popular.
While I'm not a fan of Michaels currently, I do remember when he was the top draw in WWF (yes kiddies, it will always be the WWF to me) and I am guessing that the majority of his fan base are older fans who remember how he "used to be" and have respect for everything that he has done in the business.

Because a combination of the remainer of the Attitude era and the fact he isnt a tank (should i say steroid tank) he gives us all hope that we can beat steroid using freaks. Also DX seems to be the best selling group ive ever seen and vince seems to get them back together every 5-10 years to sell some more merchandise.
However,i do not like him for the fact he always challanges for the best titles, howz about going mid-card for a while and be the show-stopper their, bring some credibility back to the IC.

Lol, you do know the stupidity part is only play acting right? : P
I guess they like him because he represents the common guy more than any other wrestling stars today. He's of average size and height but appears able to hold his own against the big guys and win. Most viewers could emphatize with him more and appreciate his hard won matches than those of bigger guys like say The Undertaker or Batista.
