Things like Candy Man and You Are My Sunshine... what are some others like this?

I am glad to see that I'm not the only one who sings the baby regular songs from the radio. I don't really know all the normal kids' songs. This makes me feel better!

All day I sing songs that I like to my son. I'm scared that he'll want one of those children's cds. If he did that's fine but I'm trying my hardest to make sure that he doesn't request one. I really don't know if I could tolerate it. Of course though, the only song he will fall asleep to is This old man... It's repetive and babies love repetion. If I sing him any other song he gets too excited and won't fall asleep. I'm not sure if this is a mistake or not because I've been singing it over and over again for months and every time I sing it I want to rip my hair out. But hey, it gets him to sleep right? Anyway, I listen to just about everything and he likes just about anything, I can already tell that he loves music. So, children's songs are great but don't limit your baby to that.

This is going to sound like an odd answer, LOL, but I've always thought that James Taylor's stuff is great for quiet singing to very little kids. Check out his Greatest Hits Vol. One. My little step-nephew started requesting this CD be played just about as soon as he could talk.

Also, Eva Cassidy has several good CDs of cover songs that are good for singing.

Sorry, I know those are weird suggestions. My mum used to rock me to sleep singing James Taylor, John Denver and stuff like that. I never got "baby songs."

If you want more traditional kids' songs, check out your local music store's selection. You don't have to buy any, but the CDs wil list most of the well-known children's songs. There are like 19 million versions of "The Wheels on the Bus," and "The Hokey Pokey," and "She'll Be Comin' Around the Mountain," etc.

Babies are wonderful creatures!!!!! I have the voice of a bull-frog and can't carry a tune in a bucket, but each of my little ones would giggle, laugh and smile at me in joy, whenever I would groan out a tune.
The kids in Kindy were the same. Just rapt that one of the mum's would sing along.
Make the most of it now, your teenage kids will not be so forgiving.
As to what to sing, anything! If you like it they will hear the happiness in your voice and that's all they need.
And if you want to use c.d's and stuff just make sure that they get to hear a variety of music styles to open up a world of choices.

Just go with what you want!

My son loves loads of songs - not just baby ones!

He loves 'Ruby' by the Kaiser Chiefs and 'Miserlou' from Pulp Fiction! For slower times we do Imagine byJohn Lennon (he had the best mobile ever when he was newborn that played this!) or Wonderwall by Oasis, The Rose etc...

He will appreciate the time and attention you pay to him when singing!

If your wanting to jog your memory then get a rhymes book from the library or better still - see if they have any sing along sessions you can go to and get some ideas!

I used to sing Row Row Row The Boat to my son whenever he got upset. Or Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. If you just keep to two or three songs though, say one at bedtime and one for when they are upset they start to associate those songs, this relaxes them and comforts them, also singing is great because it gets them used to the sound of your voice. Good luck and happy singing.

honestly, and i know i'm weird as hell, but i sing songs by sarah brightman, charlotte church and many other opera singers. well, i don't sing on their note of course, but i sing the chorus of the songs. one of my favorites to sing to mine is Ave Maria. it's a slow and easy song to sing - hum if you don't know the words. some other ones would be Somewhere Over the Rainbow (i'm from kansas so that's always going to stick with me ahahaha). and i hum classical songs because they are easy to remember and they are good for baby to listen to.

You could make up little songs,
I use to spend hours singing songs & nursery rhymes to my daughter & she never seemed impressed (probably just my singing lol)
Anyway her dad always made up songs to sing to her & she absolutely loved it, there was one he would sing & it always sent her straight to sleep.
