I struggle to cope with it this hot, and it's meant to rise. UK only answers please!

I would like to add that I am unable to stay at home during it, cannot sit in the shade/move abroad or put cold water in a hot water bottle, as it's during the day I struggle. At night I manage to sleep with covers on.

Strange as it may seem some things you can do, although they might not be practical, are to drink alcohol and eat spicy food - especially hot curries. These dilate the blood vessels bringing more blood to the surface and cooling you down.

It's important not to cool down too much, the last thing you want is hypothermia.

Somewhat more practical - drink plenty of water or fruit juice drinks, wear light coloured oose fitting clothing, keep out of the sun, sit facing into a breeze (when inside try to sit with the breeze from an open window blowing onto you, failing that use a fan), avoid physical exercise and anything strenuous. Where possible use a dehumidifier - drier air doesn't cause that same uncomfortable feeling that humid air does and your body can sweat easier in drier air (sweating = cooling).

If it gets seriously hot then cool off in a shower or bath and where this isn't practical then bathe exposed skin with cool water. Not only does this cool you down and refresh you but when sweat evapourates it leaves a salty residue which blocks sweat glands making it harder for your body to cool down. For the same reason avoid anti-perspirants, as the name suggests they stop you perspiring and this prevents you cooling down.

Maybe I shouldn't be telling you this but if predictions are right then the UK is in for the hottest summer on record.

i know its tuf darling when the heat sets in there is not really a great deal you can do about it apart from the obvious things i e stay out of sun as much as poss wear light as pos clothing i e cotton is the best another tip i usually do is keep your curtains drawn if poss leave a window open if not poss to leave a window open then invest in a fan ifyou haven't got one and leave it on all the time on low when your not there your be surprised it does make a slight difference darling my lounge and bedroom are in the sun all day and last in the peak of the heatwave it was 115 120 Fahrenheit i found doing the things i have mentioned didn't make a great deal of difference to the temperature but it did feel a little more bearable only a little that's about the best advise i can give darlin stay cool

there is nothing you can do. i prefer cold over hot anyday. when it is warm or hot outside, my body slows down and i get tired and worn out quicker. When it is cool to cold, i can work my hardest, and i have plenty of energy. I plan on moving shortly to a colder climate. That is really the only solution. I think i hate the heat more than you do. Anything over 70 degrees F is warm for me.

well your choice of clothing may not be helping you. wear light fabrics like linen and cotton mixes they breath very well. layering is also better than wearing thick clothes eg wear a camisole under your shirt so you can always take if off when you get hot. wear light colours to help reflect the heat instead of absorbing it hence heating you up.
