In the 1920s, the American ideal of womanhood was flat-chested, and binding wasn't relegated to Drag Queens and Transmen, but practiced by the in-style flappers.

Beauty standards ebb and flow and are always changing.

I think that it would be impossible for this to ever happen. I am only 21 and a 34G- I am having a Breast Reduction next week to be reduced to a 34D. I am having it done so that my curvature of the spine can be corrected and yes also for vanity so that I can wear all my clothes proudly and not look like a dumb bimbo anymore. I and probably every other woman who has had a reduction has it done due to the back, neck and shoulder pain- not because it is a trend.
I could never imagine having small breasts- I had DD's when I was 15 and I would be heartbroken if I had anything smaller than a D. It is the same as the small busted friends of mine who say that they would be horrified if they ever had large breasts. Also my friends who have had breast implants did not do it to follow a trend but more so because they were self conscious and didn't feel like real women- they love their look now.

I have never come across anyone who has had a reduction to be a flat chested size- flat chested is an A cup and I can't imagine anyone ever wanting to be reduced to such a small size, it's a very strange question that you have asked and a very odd way of thinking.

P.S. I don't think implants were ever a trend, and reductions will never be- $10,000 to $15,000 is a lot of money to spend on a trend. People aren't as shallow as you are making them out to be and I was never even aware that there were society pressures implants etc- people just need to learn not to be sheep.

One of the reasons things go in trends is that they become too popular and start to be viewed as 'common'. I think it's already the case that breast implants that are disproportionately large to a woman's body, or breast implants that look like stuck-on coconut halves, are considered to be 'common'.

When this happens, the trendsetters in society - i.e. the rich and famous - start doing something to differentiate themselves. It's happened already with weight. For much of history up until the beginning of the 20th century in the West, most people didn't have enough to eat - so being thin was considered 'common', and being voluptuous was a sign of wealth, thus fashionable. Then along came cheap nutrition and social welfare, plus a move away from physical labour to desk jobs, and suddenly the 'common' thing is to be fat - so fashionable people strive to be thin. You can make the same argument for many other things, such as suntans (used to be a sign of working in the fields, whereas posh people could stay inside; now a sign that the suntanned person is wealthy and gets to spend all his/her time on holiday, while 'common' people are stuck inside working).

Breast implants are now hugely popular, and therefore have already become 'common' as far as fashion is concerned - most models, actresses, performers and other fashionable women, outside the porn industry, have natural breasts (or very subtle implants that look natural).

My guess would be that, the more universal implants become, the less fashionable they will be. Fashion takes a while to filter down through society, so perhaps in 50-100 years everyone will be getting their breasts reduced - at which point the fashionistas will probably start having implants the size of zeppelins put in.

It's a crazy world...

A lot of women I know who're large chested want breast reductions, mainly because they want to be able to run down a flight of stairs without ending up with two black eyes.

A lot of women also suffer back pain from large chests.

I'm a 32-34 A and I'm PROUD of my chest. I wouldn't get breast implants at all. My ex boyfriend always told me, "Anything more than a mouthful is a waste."

Makes me giggle every time I see women with gigantic breast implants.

I have a lot of thoughts on this subject and Im a good candidate to answer this, as Ive had very small breasts and very large ones simply by having different weights in the last 20 years. In my experience which by now is vast, Ive never had a problem in the world attracting what seemed to be anything that is male and straight without having big breasts. They never cared about my breasts, they were attracted to my face and form, not a body part per se.

As I got older and as we all do, gained weight, I noticed that men who prefer bigger breasts but don't require them liked me for my looks and personality and the bigger chest was a plus, and I noticed other races other than white seem to like me at a bigger size.

Ive talked to a lot of men and most men DON'T LIKE IMPLANTS and most men seem to attract or date small breasted women as there are more of them anyway.

To your question: Women who get breast implants for the most part are catering to MEN, if there wasnt a "supposed" demand they would never do it. They have fallen for the fallacy that large breasts equate to happiness. All it equates to, are degenerate men not worth having oglying you and irritating the living hell out of you.

Don't ever let a man dictate your worth.

Nones ever going to get breast reductions because they are popular, although I know some got them because A. they don't like big heavy breasts or B. it hurts their back.

Who wants to be w/ someone who likes someone for their body part over the whole package anyway.. the way people break up so easily these days, its not worth changing who you are by going under the knife and sticking fake material up your breasts to appease and please someone not worth having in the long run anyway.

In Brazil, the plastic surgery capital of the world, breast reduction is the highest on the planet. While Argentina, which runs a close second for plastic surgeons, has the highest breast enhancement in the world.

In the roaring 20s, it was vogue for American women to flatten their chests with specially made girdles, siting that "clothes hung better on flat-chested ladies."

Beauty is 100% subjective, depending on who you're trying to attract, what era you live in, as well as what culture you're from.

A LOT of women are getting breast reductions, and its not because of "the sign of the times" its for health purposes. Back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, etc.

And I know many guys who hate the look of implants and love small chests.

:)

The same way a large breasted women breast feeds. It doesn't matter how big or small a woman's breast are, most can still breast feed, or at least pump breastmilk for the baby.
