How well can you see at night without the use of a flashlight? not very well I suspect we humans have poor night vision. Evolution has favored us to be Diurnal(active during the day) because it worked the best for us as a species. Our ancestors gathered fruits, nuts, plants etc which is easier to do during the day isnt it, also hunting at night against a creature that can see far better than you kind of defeats any advantage you might have... hunting in daylight gave us a better advantage as many of the creatures we prey upon are active at night and rest during the day, making it easier for us to catch them. Then when we developed agriculture once again its easier to tend to your crops, check things out and do your work during the day when there is enough light for us to see. The reason plain and simple that humans are diurnal by nature is because that is the course we took in our evolutionary path... as you can see some of our primate relatives today are nocturnal because that is the path they took. We sleep at night and are active during the day just like many other animals on the planet because that was the path we took in our development as a species. Its like a hawk owl and a great horned owl... one hunts at night the other during the day.. because that was the most advantageous thing for them to do. Nature has balance, if every animal on the planet was only awake at night or vice versa things would be pretty crowded and messed up and animals that otherwise avoid competing because of their different schedules would end up fighting eachother and competing.

It has to do with millions and millions of years of evolution. Before the industrial age or before the light bulb for that matter. During the day, when there is light, we can do more and see things, but at night, when we can't see... we have to sleep because there was no light during those times.
Plus we lack the eyes that nocturnal creatures possess, such as infrared sight, or sonar radars like bats and such.
Well, in other words, we have become accustomed to being awake during the day, sleeping at night.

it all started in the beginning of man...the primates couldnt see in the dark and therefore did everything during the day and nothing at night except slept...thats how it went all through history until the invention of the lightbulb but by then, everyone was used to sleeping at night.

I'm nocturnal. The sunlight burns....
I've always thought it was kinda stupid to sleep at night. Our ancestors should have been taking shifts to watch out for predators, seeing as it's all dark and dangerous and stuff. And I like to stay up late and be alone and stare out my window and let my mind wander.

It's our biological clock, we have set it so we naturally feel sleepy during the night, but if you constantly sleep during the day you can change your biological clock so you'd feel sleepy during the day and active at night
