I have been asked to sign a petition which asks for sterlisation of sex offenders. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Sexoffender/
Sign if you think it's a good idea. My question is... is this effective in the USA as I am sure I read somehwere that they do this. In fact any other countries...does it work? Thanks

i'll sign the petition, but i don't think it will help or work, though.
agreed, losing their right 2 father (or mother, who said all sex offenders were men? ) children should b taken away, when they chose 2 b this sort of criminal.
i think u'll find sex offenders are chemically castrated in the US.
but it has failed 2 reduce some of their offending, when u can easily buy counteracting drugs on-line!
all they need is a computer & a credit card.
the only thing that has been proved 2 work is locking them up.
locking them up 4 a long long time until they're old & cannot offend anymore.
chemical castration causes a false sense of security,
will probably b against their Human Rights here in the UK.
& abandoned b4 it even gets started.
lock 'em up & keep them locked up is the only thing they've proved consistently works.
i think they should start throwing the keys away
& forgetting about a few of 'em, let some die in a hole somewhere, then that will send a message 2 others.
opppps silly me, that'll b against their human rights 2.
we can't punish any 1 with these stupid human rights, get rid of them & we may return 2 normality & punish some of these low-lifes.

considering sterlisation is really not an option, I think the following should be considered:
amputate the legs that will walk the distance to reach the victim and if they consider using a wheelchair then amputate the hands
THEN JUST TO BE MORE CAUTIOUS
cut off the tongue that risks luring the victim,
AND pierce the eyes that risks a glance.
It seems our legal system is really quite weak. Corporal Punishment is the only answer. The legal system creates, these sex offenders.
How many more children have to be damaged?
How many more victims will have to commit suicide or suffer mental illness?
how many more will it take to Alcohol abuse and Drug abuse to forget their pain.
when will the Law Lords wake up? perhaps when it effects their own?
This country is a mess instead of trying to sort out other countries issues, the govt. should consider the mess their in.

I was just about to sign that petition but read that it is instead of a suspended sentence. I agree they should be sterilised, but it shouldnt mean that they get out of a jail sentence, a lot of sex offenders dont have/want kids anyway so its an easy option for a horrible crime.

I can't help notice a lot of the Male's getting upset: who's balls are you thinking of. There has been a study done on this in of course America, and sadly it does not work, I presume we are talking about paedophiles, and serial rapists, who will go on offending. Some of the men asked to have it done to stop themselves from offending, some agreed to have it done, surgically or or by drugs. The ones who had had the treatment said it did not stop the thoughts, they had the same urges to commit a sex crime except there tools of the trade did not work, however they said it would not stop them from offending, they said they would find other ways to get there pleasure. So it seems to me it is a mind problem not the tools. A frontal lobotomy perhaps!!!!!

Personally, i think any sex offender should have the whole thing cut off, but sterilisation is getting close to it, so i would have to say YES!
The sickos deserve anything and everything they get.

It would certainly act as a deterrent. But in respect of 'human rights' [which I would certainly concede we do not have the right balance between offender and victim] it's the very thin end of the wedge. Hard hard labour - make 'em earn their keep

WHEN YOU HERE SEX OFFENDER YOU ALWAYS THINK THE WORST, BUT THERE IS AN 17 OR 18 YEAR OLD BOY OUT THERE WHO IS AN SEX OFFENDER BECAUSE HIS GIRLFRIEND IS WHO IS 17 OR 16 SAID SHE IS 18.

Sterilisation will not do anything to help their victims - it will remove DNA evidence from the crime scene.
Castration is the only way

sounds good in principle, but paedophiles dont always use their penis on their victims, a friend of mine had her daughter molested by a woman who forcefully inserted a screwdriver into her vagina. The only cure for these people is six feet of hawser rope
