It's OK for blacks to use demeaning language, but when a white guy does it? Don't get me wrong. He blew his career. What gets me pis8ed is the double-standard. There are as many radio stations not to mention MTV or VH1 that broadcast equally-offensive language via Hip-Hop or Rap constantly. Nobody does anything about THAT! If Imas is offensive, why aren't the other public figures who are even more offensive being dumped on? And don't give me the cr8p that "It's an art form so it is different". Talk radio is also an art form. I was in broadcasting for over 40 years and would never have done what Imas did. I'm old school...I always kept it cool. Offensive is offensive be it spewed by black, white or green people.

I'm glad he got fired but my problem is I doubt it was because of what he said as much as it was the network was losing sponsors and therefore dollars. Too bad people keep buying Rap recordings with more offensive things than Imas could even dream of in his wildest, warped imagination. Double standard. Hypocracy.

Good to hear some intelligent answers out there. There is one really neat word. It is Respect. Applys to everyone. Problem is, you have to earn it.

Pardon me. If I wanted to use the "N" word, I could apply it to plenty of whites. And if I did, you would call me a racist which I definately am not.

Della Reese (bless her) said it best on the Larry King show tonight, "Everybody has to die before they get to the promised land".

Last comment. If 60% of Rap music is being bought by whites, one has to wonder what that influence will have on them. Closer race relationships or just an overall negative regardless of color?

Call me an old Fuddy Duddy............if you wish but
I miss the Good Old Days of Censorship! There use to be a strict standard of what was permissible and not permissible to say or do over the air waves, be it radio or T.V. I am a post W.W.11 Baby Boomer. I grew up being able to go to the movies and there was no movie or subject matter that I couldn't watch. Rob & Lora, Lucy& Ricky and every married couple slept in twin beds. Our music had no filthy words or sex.
The Beatles sang "I wanna hold your Hand" How
corney by todays standards!
These words that Imas used are clearly used within the black community as plainly heard in the words in the rap. The air waves need to be cleaned up!
.Don Imas has said "I am sorry." over and over.& He has been fired.I think people should leave this thing be! Drop it! He knows he did wrong.
He did the right thing.
What if a black comidian had made a remark about say "Bleached Blond Bimps's" would there
be this much flack? I am not condoning what Don Imas said, please don't think that! I am not a fan of his. I have always thought him to have a Jr. High
School bully mentallity. Then I heard of his work
within the young poor black community and I think well................. he likes kids so he can't be all that bad. People should forgive.

There is definately a double standard, but rappers are also known for using bad language and being offensive, whereas this guy is on public radio using both sexist and racist terms. This whole entire scenario is similar to if a black man had called a team of prodominately white basketball players a bunch of white trash. And then after that was said, this black man and his friend continued to bash a completely innocent team that has no business being ripped on for their personal appearance in the first place. You can't honestly believe that that would fly. That man would face the same kind of things that Imus is facing right now.

I am a huge hip hop fan, and truly hip hop is dead. But the worst rapper of all time would be lil wayne. He is just straight up garbage! His lyrics don't make any sense an he uses that voice modifier b.s. for all of his song. If anyone besides soulja boy is the worst rapper it would be lil wane. I hate how all these kids r saying lil wayne is he best rapper ever. He is commercial that's why everyone listens to him, if people listened to rappers like Immortal Technique who speaks real lyrics not the b u l l s h i t lil Wayne talks. p.s. Danny V 50 cent talks like that because he got shot in his mouth permanently damaging his jaw and lower mouth that's why he mumbles like that....

Most rappers are Black people, but most Black people are NOT rappers

No one said it was okay for Black people to use foul language.

Rappers are rappers we must put them in check, Eminem talks about killing his mom and his ex wife Kim, that's wrong too, but we dont assume he gets away with it b/c he's White, it's just what rappers do

But you cannot blame all Black people. There are plenty of Black people who do not use such language. You cannot generalize like that. Not to mention 60% of rap music is purchased by White people, so if the rappers' foul language is going to end, White people are going to have to step up as well.

yes its true but not all black people listen to rap and there are rappers who do not use offensive language but speak the truth. i don't see why white people are always defending there attitudes and comparing it to black people. those who do this are stereotyping. there are many black people who are against rappers using this language but the music industry is all about making money. if a record has a good beat and is danceable people don't pay attention to the words that are said and dance to it in all types of clubs. this music is heard and supported by blacks, whites, asians, latinos (etc). there are whites, latinos, and asians who are rappers and are using the same language. there is heavy metal, and hard core rock music that uses offensive language but i don't see anyone attacking them. but i guess everything created by black people just "has" to be bad.

I don't know but I've heard ppl & journalists begining to say the same thing about rap and hip hop more now than ever before. . .it's the pot being stirred and I'm just waiting for something bigger to happen. Things always happen in threes . . .

There will always be double standards in a racistist society. That's what racism is...a double standard.

Today,

White people can't say "nappy headed hoes" and Black people can't get elected for president.

Hopefully in the future this will change.

It's going to take time for it to be equitable. I recall how there was a push to stop using the "n" word in hip/hop music. This stuff isn't going to stop tonight. We all must endeavor to help it along despite our anger.

Imus was more vulnerable. Rappers are harder to attack even for their racism because to do so would bring another accusation of racismt.

It's all stacked against the white male..
