Kera - means coconut palms in Malayalam, the language of the state.
Kerala(m) means the land of coconut palms.
I regret that I have answered this question after seeing the request to "Star" the question by the asker. Clear violation of community guidelines.

Natives of Kerala—Keralites—thus refer to their land as Keralam. The most reliable theory is that the name is originated from the phrase chera alam . Kerala's tourism industry, among others, also use the phrase God's own country.
