Okay - you need to find a doctor who is more communicative & works w/ PCOS patients. It doesn't have to be a gyno - it can be an endocronologist.
You've been doing okay so far, right? Now you have more information & can take a more active part in your health care. Try not to worry. More people than you realize have to be their own advocates when it comes to health care.

Millions of women have PCOS and now there is more information and help available than even a few years ago. You need to get to a doctor that knows more about it. The fact that it was in your chart but you weren't given any further info is a clue to the fact that most docs don't know enough about it. Look into finding someone who knows more or specializes in this kind of problem. If you aren't having problems right now you shouldn't be scared. My niece has it and has had many problems and she's only 25. In fact she's had periods that lasted 5 months and the docs did nothing even though she was 15 and not sexually active. Then when she was 18 she needed surgery to remove a large cyst. Be happy you've had no major issues and find a better doctor. You have no reason to be scared. Honestly! Especially once you can find a doc who understands the issues involved.

I definitely tell your mother. PCOS NEEDS medical attention. But, if you're afraid of that, try talking to the school nurse or something. She'll be able to help. I know it's embarrassing having to talk about suddenly getting man hair, bad periods, and loads of other stuff, but the sooner you get on this problem, the sooner you can loose weight, protect thyroid/heart problems as well as diabetes, and have a higher chance of getting pregnant in the future. 1-2 times a year? Seriously? That's a MAJOR PCOS symptom right there. But, it could also be something else, like hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. These things tend to have similar symptoms. Go to a reproductive endocrinologist. They're better than gynos on PCOS, though gynos would also work. They'll tell you what you have by taking blood work. DON'T GO TO A NORMAL DOCTOR. They don't know jack about PCOS. Having those kinds of periods isn't normal, even if you just started. Go to the doctor. Don't waste time - your body is malfunctioning. In the mean time, take a deep breath. Pcos isn't the end of the world. You'll probably have to go on birth control for the time being, and maybe Metformin. They'll help you out. Plus, there's a website called "SoulCysters" where pcos women chat and share stories. They're all really supportive. If you do have PCOS, than you can easily regulate you hormones by loosing weight, eating healthy, and taking herbs and supplements. Plus, by loosing weight alone, you can regulate your hormones! But if you don't act soon, you'll lose the chance to reverse your facial hair! It could alas lead to future problems. Please, tell your mom. She'll understand. Pcos also tends to run in families, so she could also tell you about that. Just get yourself checked out. Please. Don't dilly daddle.

My Doctors think I have PCOS too. So my doctor told me to exercise, take some medication as well as a daily multi-vitamin. So I try to go to the gym a few times a week, take the multi-vitamin and my medication. You should ask your doctor about Metformin, my medication, its a diabetes medication that doctors sometimes give to type 2 diabates patients. It helps the insulin in your body regulate your blood sugar as well your testosterone levels. SO if you have any excess hair, or problems with you period, they would decrease in months with Metformin. I'm scared too sometimes, but its ok, you'll pull through. I'm 17. But just a warning, I'm not a doctor, remember that!
