For me, when I am working on a large Data Entry Project, I usually just plug in my iPod, tune out and anything that flat out stinks, I just skip it, that activity alone sometimes keeps me going.
Oddly enough, productivity is better with DE when you are listening to music, at least studies where I work proved that.

You need something lively. I'd recommend: Rap (Get Low, Gold Digger, Pass the Courvoisier), Dance Music, Disco (Born to Be Alive, YMCA, More More More, Disco Inferno, Play that Funky Music, Gimme Gimme Gimme a Man After Midnight, Get Down Tonight, Funkytown), 80s music (so many: Rebel Yell, 867-5309, Take on Me, Let's Go, the Metro, I Can't Wait, Venus, Sunglasses at Night, Shakin', Never, Danger Zone) ...
Those are quite different, so hopefully you like and own one of those genres.

I always do best listening to classical when studying. There have been some good suggestions, maybe bands like De La Soul (hip hop) are to your liking?
Jazz might work as well....Motown perhaps?
This may sound odd-but if you are trying to study veer away from songs that you know the words to...unless of course you don't (like me) feel the compulsion to sing a long.

Band: John Whelan and Friends
CD: Flirting With the Edge
music: upbeat, wonderful Irish reels and jigs and a couple of songs with lyrics. Great background music... keeps your toes tapping without sucking you up into the lyrics.
Here's a little about it at Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Flirting-Edge-John-Whelan/dp/B000006FCK

Anything that is fast paced. If the music gets slow it makes me fall asleep. I'm particular to Green Day and Yellowcard lately.

I realize I am goin' out on a limb here, and my clique will reject me, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE Hinder, James Blunt (oo baby!) and Blue October. However, I seriously doubt I could study to any music when I am fantasizing!

None. But if I would, some Jazz. I know this may not be your kind, but ehh.
I remember when I pulled a couple when I was in high school. Peace!

Well I typically keep it upbeat. Rock, Punk, Hip-Hop, Techno, Metal, anything loud will work quite nicely I should think.
