Why do white people in America think they are better than everyone else?

Question

I put in America b/c well traveled people know that this country (and other places colonized by America) is the most racist country there is.

FYI, I have been abroad and am well educated. Also, I live in los angeles and I have a diverse group of friends, some who were born in America and a lot who were not. In particular, my white Canadian and Asian friends are the ones who have the hardest time understanding why racism occurs in America. My friends from Europe are not as shocked but claim that it is worse here than in Europe. In particular, England and France seem to be the worse out the European counries. So if there are people who have traveled outside of the United States and have friends from different countries I would like to hear from you. P.S. I'm not talking about self hate or genocide. I'm talking about discriminating against another race that is not your own race. Thanks.

One of the reasons is that, I think, they have been brought up in their American culture, tradition and education since some 200 years ago. In fact, we need to learn to respect good people form any nation (most of us are the members in the United Nations) and the issue of racism should be redefined or re-educated at all levels of education worldwide since, again, we should learn to live, study and work like brothers and sisters regardless of their race. The issue of, say, intelligence or humanness, should be of imminent consideration for the sake of the better world.

You need to learn more about the world and stop acting like you are some enlightened intellectual.

In europe the major minorities are look unfavorably upon by a much greater percentage of people then in america. In Africa and the middle east it is basically war between the groups.

Every person I have ever known that was raised in another country (primarily europe) have been amazed with what America is really like.

People in America think of themself so highly because this is a very patriotic nation and we take pride in that. We don't look down up nationalism like some other countries. We praise the rights we have and hold them more dearly then any other country in the world.

ummm well honestly because white people own this country and they were here first and with all the illegal immagrants coming over here in this country everyday they are just trying to save their country from being like mexico or some other crap hole on the planet. Hell yeah this country is racist but what race isnt i know for a fact that every single race out there has something to say about another race. No matter what the topic may be.

I do not think that America is the most racist country - we do not murder people in this country because they are a different race/culture/ethnicity. I think that there are racists in this country and that different parts of the country are further along in tolerance than others.

and YIKES- the white people were not the first people in this country.....what about the Native Americans that were already here...that the white people killed?

I'm American and have travelled abroad, albeit not extensively. Contrary to your statements, I think your average American is *far* more open-minded and curious about other people than the places I have visited, which were mainly in Europe.

Travelling abroad, while opening my mind to other ways of living, also deepened my appreciation for what we have here in America.

I question whether YOU are particularily well-travelled or well-read on this subject or not.

I don't know why 'some' white (not all) think they're better than everyone else. One thing I do know is you don't get any sympathy from the devil and you damn sure don't get extra compassion for being white, black, hispanic, indian, or whatever you are whoever you are, and however you be. Life is life roll with it or get lost in your self indulgent ways just don't point the finger at me because im a certain color because it doesn't matter we're all dust in the wind anyways.

When you walk down a dark street at night alone (you are white) and you see another person walking toward you (who is black) examine all the feeling you feel within you carefully. This is no simple matter to fix. This is hate and fear, this is our country. This is the basis for most of our laws. We do not promote love and understanding in the US. We live fear and white people use money to distance them self from it. The sweep it under the carpet and pretend black people are criminals. when most of it is just in their mind. hopefully you can see how my example of "black people" can = other countries also.

I don't think it's very fair for ANYBODY to be catorgorized like this, including white people. My question to you is: isn't this a racist comment targeted at white folks?
I don't know what part of the world you're dealing with but I would look for new associates.

I don't think America is that racist. Have you been around America? Is there any place that is as diverse as America? I don't think so. Racial tensions appear intensified simply because there are so many races interacting here together.
