...the massive presence of their scare stories is proof that they are right?

The science community is in consensus on global warming. The media merely reports their findings. Global warming is real and it is caused by human activity.

Hi, Ok I'm answering this question because I'm sick of there only being two kinds of debate: 1) people who claim there should no longer *be* any debate and that global warming is an undeniable and simple fact, and 2) those who think global warming is a flimsy theory backed only by tree-hugging hippies. Real debate and scientific knowledge are only held back by name calling like this, which avoids the actual issue.

For a scientific and relatively unbiased look at the true extent of global warming, check out the USA's WNYC and NPR (National Public Radio) debate program, "Intelligence Squared". In March 2007 they had a debate for and against the statement "Global warming is not a crisis". It's an Oxford-style debate, and it pretty much leaves it to the listener to make up his or her own mind after hearing evidence from both sides, rather than telling the listener that they're not to be trusted to decide. Anyone who appreciates rational discussion should appreciate this debate, whether you think global warming is a horrid truth or just a hoax.

If there are lots of different discreet sources of
information saying the same thing, it lends more
credence to something being true, then if you
can only find a single source, or everybody is
quoting the same source.

That's why.

Are you saying that the average temperature is
NOT increasing?

Or are you just unwilling to give up any part of
your cushy life style to protect future generations?

"Causal science" is difficult. It is far easier to say
that the average temperature on the planet is higher
than it was last year and the year before that, etc.
Its far harder to prove that it is due to human activity.

However, different scientists, using different
environmental models, and not iin discussion
with each other are coming up with more and more
links between human activity and predictable,
repeatable effects in the environment.

Pithy insulting names do not invalidate science.
Sorry this makes you so uncomfortable.

a lot of those claims, and claims similar, are made by using human beings that're both petrified of the reality, or who favor to convince human beings it doesn't exist for organization causes (i.e. oil organizations, etc). for sure you do get a small share of folk who do not position self belief in it because they don't locate it logical or do not see the experience in it yet lower back, that's a very small share! i in my opinion position self belief in it. immediately ahead answer: sure they could lower back up a number of them yet no longer almost sufficient to practice it incorrect. right here's a list of what's subsidized up and what's not any longer: • the present warming is led to by using organic cycles - NO • international warming has ended and the Earth has been cooling for X form of years - NO • Scientists have admitted that they invented international warming, fabricated the info etc - NO • international warming has no longer led to any substitute in the elements – droughts, floods, hurricanes etc - NO • international warming is led to by using the city warmth island result, floor stations are incorrectly sited etc - probably yet not likely • Scientists have deleted the uncooked records, the paintings of scientists can’t be examined - NO • It’s warmed swifter in the previous - probably and particular • The form of glaciers is starting to be, glaciers are increasing etc - NO • Volcanoes emit better CO2 then human beings do - NO (There are round 6.8 Billion human beings on earth and not almost sufficient volcanoes. • each and each and every of the computer fashions in the previous were incorrect - NO • the different planets are warming hence it’s the solar - NO time-honored those "international warming skeptics" can't lower back up their claims.

If you feel it is the truth and that the issue is important to spread, why wouldn't you use the largest network of information transmission available?
Scare tactics may be a little extreme. They are not citing their own stories as evidence but scientific studies. It doesn't take science to see that as human population rises so too does our environmental impact. Temperatures are just one facet of the environment we are influencing.
