mine was 33 years ago. wow cant believe that but it was hard. it was called a dry birth. nowadays it would have be Cesarean. it was 36 hours after my water broke. 24 hours of hard labor she was 8lbs 2 ozs. now my second was easier. 8 hours of labor. epidurals were just invented he was 8lbs 10 ozs. yes to stitches both times. good luck. and stay healthy. and must say both were absolutely worth it. I have 2 great kids and 5 wonderful grand kids. Wow again. time flies enjoy it. lol

I was in full-blown labor for about 13 hours and pushed for an hour before my daughter was born. My labor was induced and I believe that made the contractions more intense. I didn't get an epidural until I was 5 cm dilated but it took me a long time to reach that point. I got the epidural and took a short nap, woke up and was fully dilated to 10. The nurse turned the epidural off since it was my first child and had me start pushing when the epi wore off so that I could feel when and where to push. I started to tear so my OB gave me an episiotomy (which I didn't want). I think that was the worst part of the whole experience. Childbirth isn't the easiest thing to go through, but it SO well worth it in the end when your sweet little angel gets placed in your arms. :-) If you are pregnant, congratulations and good luck!!!

P.S. As the other person said, everyone is different and all pregnancies are different; no two are alike.

I got to the hospital around 9:30 am (5 cm dilated) and my 8# 11oz son was born at 12:52 PM. The pain was not bad for the first 3 hours about the last 20 mins it hurt but it was bearable. I did have an episiotomy because I had such a big baby. Just keep the stitches really clean and they heal quickly.

I did not have an epidural or any sort of painkiller other than a shot of demerol right at the last hour. I wished I had not asked for it because it made me dizzy and they gave me some laughing gas which was not enough to make me unconscious but supposed to help with the pain; I fell asleep delivering the baby so they had to use forceps to get him but he was fine and had no effects from the forcepts.

I gave birth naturally. I did it without pain medication. It does hurt but if you educate yourself on what your body is doing and you walk around, stay upright, stay hydrated, have a doula (I really recommend one!) it's not so bad. I had my son after about 30 hours but that was a lot of light pains. The last 10 were the ones that were strong but there are breaks in between so it's not too bad. I felt great after birth because of the oxytocin rush. It's the best high ever! I didn't get cut and I only tore a little bit which didn't hurt that bad. I was given a sitz bath for when I urinated which took the sting away. That healed up in a week. No biggie. If I ever have another baby I'm doing it natural just because I felt so alive and wonderful and you bounce back immediately because you're not drugged or stuck in a bed with a catheter.

I was induced at 42 weeks because my daughter just did not want to come out. From the time I was induced to the birth of my daughter, it was about 26 hours. I recall being in pain from the contractions and was unable to take pain medicines because of a reaction I have to codeine. I did get an epidural eventually (they had to do it twice because the first time the doctor missed). I know that it must have hurt because I remember tears coming down my face, and walking A LOT around the hospital, but I honestly don't remember how much it hurt. Once it came time to push, I didn't feel a thing. I pushed a 9 pound 6 ounce baby (much to the surprise of my doctor)out vaginally and at that point did not feel one bit of pain. I apparently tore quite a bit and had stitches. People tell you that you forget about the pain and it all is worth it because of the end result. And it truly is. Infact I am due in 10 weeks with our second daughter, and am not worried at all. In fact I will try to hold out even longer without an epidural as it slowed down my progress the first time.

My first delivery was many many years ago. That was in the days of epidurals, very few practiced natural birth. But yes before they gave me the epidural it did start to hurt. A lot.

My daughter had all of her deliveries naturally. She did wonderfully and never had any tearing.

With my second delivery I had no drugs or epidural. I did tear but I had twins and both babies were feet first.

The key I think to being able to "bear" the pain was to consciously relax during the contraction. It's a natural thing to tense up when in pain. Tensing will cause the pain to intensify and be worse. But relaxing will help the pain not be as difficult to bear.

After my daughter's first delivery she made the interesting comment within 30 minutes of delivery she was already starting to "forget' how much it hurt.

One of the things I observed after my second delivery I felt a euphoria, a happiness that was so great. I think it is a hormonal reaction that helps one forget the discomfort of delivery.

It didn't really hurt at all, I had an epidural. It wore off a little toward the end, but that was good because I could feel when I needed to push. I was in labor 5 hours, and I got just a couple stitches. My doctor just let me tear naturally instead of giving an episiotomy, and I'm very glad--I healed very easily. I hope this time around will be as great!

I gave birth vaginally, without pain meds and didn't tear or have an episiotomy. My labor lasted for about 12 hours, start to finish. It feels "strong" but it's not an unbearable pain. I kept my options open for an epidural and said I would get one if I felt I really needed it, and I almost caved at about 7 centimeters, but I'm so glad that the anesthesiologist was not immediately available... because I gave birth naturally, felt great as soon as the baby was born and was able to walk around 30 minutes after the birth... felt fabulous. I think it was the hormones that are released when you give birth naturally... because I felt like I was on cloud nine. I feel fortunate that I was able to experience that.

Baby was big so they induced me...
It didn't work...I wouldn't dilate so they kept me in the hospital with the induction waiting for results for 24 hours.... I was in SOOOO much pain in the lower part of my back for the entire 24. And they wouldn't let me eat or drink what I wanted. So when they came in and asked if I wanted them to try the induction again or go home, I was MORE than happy to wait it out and go home and enjoy a good meal and get my back back to normal.
A week later, I was overdue and they brought me back into the hospital and asked me if I wanted to be induced again.... I begged no! They took her ceserean and since the pain stuff didn't work on me, they had to put me asleep through it. I woke up feeling SOOO good that I forget what I was doing in the hospital only to see my fiance walk in the room telling me we had a 9 lb. 9 oz. baby girl! And he caught it on tape from a distance. I was sooooo happy. The surgery took less than 6 minutes on the tape. I don't know how long I was asleep for. I didn't feel it though.
I got the dissolving stitches. After a few weeks, the only problem I had was at the site of the first cut, the very end of my scar now. It was kinda open more than the rest but it healed none-the-less, and it feels fine.

I got an epidural so no it didn't hurt. I highly recomend it, lol. My labor lasted 14 hours, but the delivery only last about 30 minutes I think. I did have to get stitches but that was only because at the last minute she turned sideways, and the doctor didn't have enough time to turn her back. Everyone is different though. Thing might be faster or slower for you. Good Luck and Congrats!!!

Had my son naturally at home after about 24 hours of labor. Pushed my son out in 20 minutes. I felt very powerful and in control. It does hurt but it's not a sharp and horrendous pain like some let on. It's a gradually progressing and tolerable pain if you trust your body to do what it's supposed to do. I had a small vaginal tear but it didn't even require one single stitch.

I recommend the Bradley Method Books. I think it's called Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way. It helped me to put everything into context and prepare myself to "let go" and give in to labor instead of fight it or try to "manage" it with drugs that can actually slow it down and complicate things.
