3 answers

y^2 - 4y - 44 = 16x
(y^2 - 4y) - 44 = 16x
(y^2 - 4y + 4 - 4) - 44 = 16x
((y - 2)^2 - 4) - 44 = 16x
(y - 2)^2 - 4 - 44 = 16x
(y - 2)^2 - 48 = 16x
(y - 2)^2 = 16x - 48
(y - 2)^2 = 16(x - 3)

so

y0 = 2
x0 = 3
A = 4

Rewrite the equation of the parabola into vertex form.

y² - 4y - 44 = 16x

y² - 4y - 44 + 48 = 16x + 48

y² - 4y + 4 = 16x + 48

(y - 2)² = 16(x + 3)

(x0, y0) = (-3, 2)

4A = 16
A = 4

y² - 4y - 44 = 16x
y² - 4y + 4 - 4 - 44 = 16x
(y - 2)² - 48 = 16x
(y - 2)² = 16x + 48
(y - 2)² = 4(4x + 12)
(y - 2)² = 4(4)(x - (- 3))
