We all have one, those of us that were alive. What's yours?

I saw it happen from 60 miles away. Saw everything in great detail. It was horrific. I was at Cape Canaveral for the launch the day before and it got scrubbed. So If the Shuttle had gone up when it was originally supposed to go up, I would have been there.

At my friend's house, waiting for her to be ready to go (where ever it was we were about to go). While she got ready, I watched the news in living room with her husband... they were showing the Challenger takeoff live.

My friend came in the room while they were counting down... we decided to watch the historical event and then go run our errands. We were confused at first... there were rumors that people could see someone in a parachute... I think that in the initial moments of the explosion... that area of time when the TV announcer wasn't even sure what was happening, we felt confused by the long stream of smoke... horrified at the possibility of an explosion, and hopeful that it was just a "kink" that NASA would easily explain and iron out... We stayed glued to the news until it was clear what had happened.

We were very depressed for the rest of the day... Very, very, very sad.

My 3rd grade teacher was so excited about a female teacher being in space, that she had a TV brought into our room in 3rd grade, so we could witness the take off of the first teacher up in space. Then we all watched it blow upon TV! It upset her so bad that she started bawling in class and went home for the rest day.

We were watching it during class. I was sitting on a carpet. I remembered that a teacher was on the shuttle and thought no way.

My Dad then took my new challenger model that was still in the plastic and put it in the attic. Now I'm rich thanks to ebay!

I was too young for it to mean much to me at the time. But I did have a girl in my class with the same last name as the teacher. At the time I remember wondering if she was related.

I only saw one little blurb on cnn news. I was actually there and watched the challenger blow up, was only 2 miles away from the launchsite, It was devestating! You would think there would have been more about it.

I was in 2nd grade and we were watching it live on TV...then it exploded. We were then told to go back to the classroom. It was really awful.
