Do you mean pre-operative transsexual woman? Because the term "shemale" is derogatory and offensive outside of porn.
If I found out, I might be a little upset that she hadn't felt comfortable enough to divulge it to me beforehand/earlier, but I'd talk it out with her, listen to her side of the story, and go from there.
I'm pansexual, so I love and am attracted to transwomen just as much as biological women; the issue isn't her gender past or what's under her skirt, but rather why she never told me.

Tell her what a babe she is and I still like her a lot. I'm TG and am Bi and I have a very deep respect for real women. Most real women will tell you though that many ( shemale ie TG's ) are very beautiful and feminine too.

I guess I would accept him/her as I had when I though he was a she. Then again, maybe I'd wriggle my way out of it by citing a trust issue, so as not to come across as homophobic.
