When I was a kid, Addidas was the big thing in the late 80's, but my family couldnt afford the trackie pants (I think Americans call them Sweat pants?!?) Anyway in typical Addidas style they had THREE stripes down the side in flourescent colours (80's style) well as I said my parents coulnt afford the $80 for them and brought me a cheap $20 knock-off pair that only had 2 stripes...It was a disaster! I got teased for only having two stripes and not being able to afford the third stripe! It's haunted me ever since...

Now I just dont buy Addidas stuff...jokes on them!

Yes, I am in my 50's and came from a large family. The clothes we wore were not new or trendy but they were clean and neat. I think that all of us went through similar situations. It still brings up sad memories at times but I got over it. Now I thank God that I had what I had. It made me work harded to get "nice" clothes.

Kids will tease on whatever they can get a reaction. If you were self-conscious about your clothes, then other kids could get a rise out of you by teasing you about it. If it's not clothes, it would be something else: weight, height, hair color, where you live, glasses, braces, there's always something. So, maybe you need to get past that you were teased, because everyone was teased. It wasn't about the clothes, it was your reaction to the teasing. Your kids will still get teased about something.

My mom bought me a navy blue raincoat with a peace sign on painted on the back, (it was the 70s) at a consignment shop. I thought it was so cool... until I wore it to school, a couple of my "friends" wouldn't stop teasing me saying "Peace baby Peace" behind my back. They said "why are you wearing that stupid looking raincoat, that peace sign looks so gay!" By the end of the day I swore I would never where that raincoat again, and I did not.

Yes, sometimes. My family couldn't afford nice clothes, so a lot of the time I had to wear things that weren't "in".
I was bullied mainly because I was different.
