As the others have said - lightweight, loose fitting, light coloured cotton and other natural fabrics. Avoid anything manmade.
If it's very sunny then consider a lightweight canvas hat with a wide brim and ventilation slits or mesh. This will keep the sun off your head and neck and reduce the chance of heat exhaustion, heat stroke or sun stroke. Similarly, in intense sun keep covered up as much as possible.
Be prepared to change your clothes often, the hotter it is the more you'll sweat, the more humid it is the more your clothes will smell.

I live in Maui, and we get our share of hot and humid days, so a cotton t-shirt, slippers, and cotton shorts, work well, unless you are on the beach, then , just a swimsuit will do. Oh, slippers are sandals. Aloha.........

You should wear a material that is loose and porous, like cotton. I like in Tennessee and that is a pretty popular material here.
