No, they have holes to make them easier to carry at a nudist camp when carrying two cups of coffee too!

That's funny. Lol.
Seriously though, the reason for the holes date back to over a hundred years ago. The original donut recipe was different than it is today and when they cooked them, the centers were never cooked. Only the outer part of the donut would cook, so they just cut out the middles before cooking.
Todays donut recipes don't have that problem but the hole in the middle is just simply very popular, so the ring shape has remained.
