Thats because the reptiles can carry samonella bacteria, and by washing them in the sink (food and or dishes) or in the bath (you) could be contaminated with it. Buy or use a plastic basin that is used just for that purpose, and wash your hands after handling to reduce the risks.
Good luck cause reptiles rule.

A study was done by the CDC a while back that actually proved that you have about the same chance of contracting salmonella from your dog or cat as you do from your pet reptile. I always wash my hands before and after playing with my critters, wether furry or scaly, and I wash my hands after I play with one and then get another out of it's terrarium. It's just common sence. As far as washing my critters stuff goes, I have a big storage tub that serves as a bathtub for the critters, and I don't hesitate to wash it out in the bathtub with a 10% bleach or quatricide solution. I wash their bowls and furniture in the sink with the same solution, and the big terrariums I wash outside with the hose and--you guessed it--the same 10% bleach or quat solution. I also clean the sink and bathtub when I'm done cleaning their things. It's healthier for them and myself, and as a result I have never gotten sick from them and their homes and furniture are clean and that keeps them healthy. Go ahead and use your sink or tub, but remember to clean it out when you're done. Hope this helps!

You CAN wash those things inside sinks and bathtubs.

However, because many reptiles carry bacteria, you'll need to thoroughly clean your bathtub and your sink with bleach.

Clean It In The Toilet. You Don't Have To Worry About Samonella Bacteria. It Has Bacteria In Toilets Anyways. And Then When You Are Finish, Clean It In Hot Water. And When You Are Done, Put It In The Stove And Turn To 450.
