Or are other's people's cooties still on it? It grosses me out. Hosts should offer body wash instead.

Soap is naturally alkaline and not an environment germs can live in hence its use in hygiene.

I don't think it's sanitary to use a bar of soap in any restroom because everyone's DIRTY hands have touched it. I believe i putting out the soap dispenser things for guests.

they should have body wash in shower and pump hand soap at sink if they are stuck on the bar of soap wherever it may be it should always be new for each new guest

I feel the same way - haven't bought bar soap in years.
I dont even use it in the shower - but thats because it causes mold growth in the grout, and I'm allergic.

I offer body wash. But most people bring their own. I know I do.

Well for one thing the outer layer keeps coming off--that's some help.
(By the defensive tone of some of your lady respondents apparently they have cooties--beware!)
