You got to be kidding... In the first place the US one uses 120 vac at 60 hz. The Jap doesn't. Not to mention the language differences. Then there is a slight problem with the incompatibility of the two different TV scan rates and frequency band widths.

Just because you can download the US firmware doesn't mean that you can play US movies. The region locked out is built into the hardware, so that's why people have to mod their PSX/PS2 when they want to play Japanese PSX/PS2 games. You also risk the possibility that the US firmware may not work on the Japanese PSP. Sony recommends that you download the each country's PSP's respective firmware.

The only difference you will really care about is the US version only plays US region video UMDs and the Japanese version will only play Japan region video UMDs. Of course, since hardly any video UMDs are still being produced this is pretty much a moot point.

Games will play on any version, and the power adapter is universal 100-240V 50/60Hz. Language is selectable in the setup menu.
