Your opening premise is in error. The bellly button was the location of your umbilical cord, which consisted of blood vessels that once linked you to your placenta, where substances necessary for your survival were exchanged between you and your mother.

No connection whatsoever with digestion--your mother did that for you, and sent you the results of her digestion,as described above.
