What does this statement mean.. as long as it is kept in perspective?

as in a relationship he made this comment.. " I see no problem with going forward as long as it is kept in perspective" I don't quite understand this statement.

I think it means to proceed with a plan as long as you keep in mind that the goal is what's important, not necessarily how you achieved it. I do not agree with this philosophy, but it sounds great.
