Try a system restore, if your computer has this. Go into the control panel, under performance and maintenance. Go to a restore point where you were able to burn a CD.

Sounds like either one of two things happened:
1. Your hardwarre was removed (meaning you can fix this by going to Control Panel, and Add Hardware
2. You are looking at the wrong drive letter

The second one is my guess, because most burners are drive D. Is there a drive D? Try that one is it looks available. TO find out which drive is the burner, simply put a CD in the drive and open up MY Computer and you will see which drive is active.

Lastly, make sure that the Burner software is up-to-date.

BY the way, do you have any other drives in the computer (meaning a flash memory stick?) That can be trying to use the same drive letter as well, causing a disruption of any hardware pointing at that drive letter.

Completely hard power down the PC. Unplug the power cable from the wall for about a minute. I've seen CD burners do this if they get a bad piece of media and error out. They will not completely reset until power is removed.

If your burning drive is a usb, replug it back in and see if something says you have a usb 2.0 highspeed is plugged in.
If your burning drive is in the cpu itself, then I would replace it as it sounds like it wants to work when it wants to like my old dell desktop pc. That's all I got to say as I'm only 17 and I don't know much about that stuff. Good Luck I hope I helped you out!

Hi there,

1. Did you change to a new cd burner?
2. If you go to "My Computer" will you be able to see drive "E:" there?

Start by rebooting your computer. I have a problem at times when my computer refuses to recognise that there is a writeable CD in drive E:, I reboot and it is happy.
