i do think so..... but if a african american said something like that to a caucasion, he wouldnt be fired and there wouldnt be that big of a deal made about it at all. it is wrong becuse i do think to even say stuff like that is wrong and every one should be treated equally no matter what, but that is how society is today. So yes he should be fired....

I am tired of racism, and ready for change.
Well, a black announcer did do this to the Duke lacrosse team, It was Al Sharpton. Did he get fired? No.
Was he made to publicly apologize? No.
I think that a public figure like Imus should have been fired. But I think that Al Sharpton should as well. Let's make it fair.

I know that people think that cowering down and apologizing was the right thing to do. But it only made the situation about race in America worse. The double standard must stop.
Like white people have to watch what they say and black people have the right to freedom of speech.
Who is right? The court of public opinion won't say because they like the tension between the two races.

When does the nonsense end and the healing of our culture begin? It is not black or white, it is we are Americans. Politicians have used this tactic to separate us for hundreds of years, while some of the people tried to heal. I know there are racists out there, but the majority of people want to see healing. The government has perpetually continued to stir this perverbial pot whenever necessary. Don't we all think it is time to move forward instead of always looking back.
I will say I am sorry about the slavery of the past. It was wrong, was this the only time in history it happened? No. Are the others still persecuted for their part? No. Are they made to walk around on egg shells, and pay now what happened then? No. Why are white Americans then? Because the government has kept this war alive. While keeping the hurt alive in the black people.
When will we be big enough to end it?
When will we just embrace oneanother and say that I love you no matter the color of our skin.
Because you are an American, a human being.
I am saying this because no one else wants to.
There is nothing that can not be overcome unless there is no will to change.
What would Martin Luther King have done? He wanted peace for all races and sexes. Yes, sexes, or did you forget that many white women also had to march for their rights at the same time? Enduring all of the comments and beatings along side of you.
Maybe I shouldn't have posted this, but with all of the racial tension on this forum...It hurts me to see the pain it causes the person on the receiving end. It hurts me. I can't stop it by myself. Do you like to hurt? Do you want to keep this hurt alive?

To be honest with you I'm not happy with the comments he made plus he has made more offensive comments over the years, but at the same time this is reverse discrimination and you can call it a double standard. Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Ludacris, Jay-Z and so forth are Black and have insulted Jews and called women every name on the book and nothing has ever happen to them, I have yet to hear an apology from them. Look at snoop, hes actually justifying that it is ok among blacks the use of "ho." Interesting is it? What Mr Imus said was wrong but there are people like i have just mentioned that have yet to issue an apology, no wonder I no longer listen to Rap music anymore. And to answer your question yes he should get fired along Rossie O'Donnell, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

I think getting him off of public radio was a good idea because that's where you can't say anything that might hurt someone's little feelings. God only knows the comments of ignorant strangers (especially those who make a career of their offensive comments) should hold so much sway in our lives. We need to grow up and reserve our righteous indignation for discriminatory *behavior*, rather than the spontaneous racist comments that occassionally escape the mouths of white men. I understand that CBS has to protect their image, his comment was not funny and I never liked him, but I really hope someone gives the man a satellite show. If not, free speech just took a smiling kick in the balls and asked for another.

Yes, he should have been fired. And, yes, a dj on a black radio station who makes similiar remarks should also be fired. And, yes, rappers who make these kinds of remarks should be held equally responsible. AND, yes, Imus should have to apologize to the ladies of the team, not to Jessie Jackson or Al Sharpton. Jessie needs to apologize to his wife for the child he fathered outside of marriage, if that information is accurate, and Al should learn to master the King's English. (I'm sorry. You did not ask all of that.)

If he had been black there would likely not have been such an outcry, but Imus has a history of racist behavior, he is popular, he is extremely white and he choose an unusual target, upper middle class, college basketball players. Tasteless and stupid, set himself up as a succulent target for the usual suspects.
Not to worry, no such thing as bad publicity, he will likely have his own lucrative sattelite program within a few months.

Racial slurs and harsh statements from Rap artist have been around for awhile. Comedians of all colors have made remarks that offended others. Although I never cared to listen to Imus, I have to wonder if this will turn out to be one sided. Probably will. I can't imagine comedians and rap artist turning from the very thing that makes them so much money.

Of course not . He's the test case before the election . Hillary Clinton wants to shut up the opposition so they won't spill the beans on her RECORD...as if nobody knows she's an incompetent crook ..She's been yapping we have too much free speech ..so look what happens ..Imus never said the word "black". White players were on the team as well .

Imus was just being a male chauvinist pig-you really can't fire him just because he's an asshole. A black DJ could have gotten away with much worse than "nappy-headed hos" (he even meant it as a misguided compliment) and the media wouldn't have blinked an eye.

Imus is an old fool who should have known better. He's gotten away with it for so long he thought he could say anything and got lazy controlling himself.
Had he been satirizing, that would have been different.
My personal conflict here is Free Speech...You may not like what is said but the alternative is much worse.
