Imus is a professional. As a professional he is expected to know which lines he can cross, and which he can't. He showed poor judgement when calling "a class valedictorian, a future lawyer and a musical prodigy" what he did. Many of the women on this team which he referred to as "nappy headed" and "Ho's" are on their way to being successful professionals. These women do not have the same soap box (provided by CBS) that he does.
To answer your question, he was fired for a lack of professionalism. He crossed a line that as a professional he should know he can not ever cross. His biggest sin as a professional was costing his corporation advertising dollars. That is the line that must never be crossed as a professional working for a media company. He crossed it, and he has been fired for it.
(Yes, I understand he was trying to be funny, but that doesn't relieve him of his professional obligations.)

the decision to hearth him replaced into monetary. Advertisers were pulling its sponsorship so the community determined it should be a better monetary decision to lose Imus extremely then lose their finished objective for present, that's getting funds. The outcrying of disgust with this guy by technique of the black administration replaced into pretend. They were doing it to get on television and to get even extra help from persons that want to blame everybody else for his or her issues yet themselves. yet that doesnt substitute the undeniable truth that overexaggerated or no longer, the outcry replaced into there and the community had to cope with it. there is not any longer some thing incorrect with what the networks did. someone would not have an actual to be on a radio coach or a television coach and if a community feels the guy is a criminal duty they should be firing them. What the outrage should be at isn't the community notwithstanding the phony Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton that are racist opportunists that do not provide a darn about the plight of the person-pleasant black american. i ask your self if some black host got here on and said as the BYU swim team a set of bleach blonded bimbos if all of us obtainable ought to assert a lot as a peep adversarial to that fact. in all likelihood no longer.

It's high time that many people
became aware of the following fact:
There is absolutely *no such thing* as a
singular, homogenous "black community”
Instead, there are many, many different
varieties of “communities” which have
been labeled as being "black" and there
are a great deal of diversity of opinions and
types of people found within each of them.
Thus, many matters -- such as Rappers, etc.
--- are *not*, in the least bit, "representative"
of "all" or even "most" of the wide variety of
very diverse "black communities" which exist
throughout the United States of America.
An excellent resource is the book:
"DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE: -- Fighting
Cultural Information about African-Americans"
(-- written by Newsweek and Meet the
Press correspondent, 'Ferai Chideya')

Personally I found a little humor in the whole thing. That someone actually thought it was ok to say something like that. But thats free speech so what can you do. They didn't fire him completely they just took him off T.V. not the radio. So he still has a job. But why the hell would you say that about a group of girls who just lost the biggest game of their season. Oh well what would America be without ignorant people.? Christiegirl:)

Imus should have been fired - and perhaps, if the players involved want to, he should also be sued for slander.
Generic racial remarks and typical trash talk is one thing, but when racial insults are aimed at specific individuals - well, he simple crossed the line.
See the difference?
