omething no one cares. its annoying how black people are always pulling the black card and saying its because im black, white people made us salves, and all that and not one living black person in america has ever been a slave. if there ancestors were never enslaved and brought here they wouldnt live here and wouldnt have as many freedoms as they do now o would be poor in a 3rd world african country.

Racism in any form is wrong no matter who says it--white or black.
My Great grandparents came here in the 1920's long after slavery ended. I do not understand how people today can use slavery as an excuse to critize someone or as an excuse why they critized someone. It just does not make much sense to me.
I was born here as well as the majority of people living in the United States. This makes us--White, Black, Spanish etc--All Americans.
We are all one race--American! So let us stop all this racism!

Let me enlighten you. Racism is wrong no matter who practices it. Slavery left a generational stain that has lasted over 200 years. Being enslaved meant being denied not only liberty, but the loss of identify and culture, language, tradition, and religion. Nobody should be thankful for that.
The ramifications of slavery continue to this day in the form of psychic depravity that was imposed by the institution. African-American's were not allowed to have nuclear families, were taught to hate and despise each other and themselves (the whiter the skin, after slave owners began the practice of raping enslaved women and then enslaving their own offspring, the better the slave was treated.) Those practices have been psychically handed down along with the practice of violence perpetrated against slaves.

Then there is the condition of denial and race guilt, which you are suffering. Your race benefited from the enslaved servitude of African-Americans and institutional racism that is still practiced today. You feel guilty and uncomfortable when these issues are raised. Possibly because you feel helpless to do anything to change it. You're not. Be a watchdog for civil rights. Join the NAACP or a political organization that promotes equitable treatment of all individuals. Lobby for reparations. The head in the sand, "I didn't do it and ain't nobody living anymore who suffered from it" approach hasn't worked for anyone and never will. If you do something about it you'll feel better. Make a contribution.

As for the notion that slavery saved anyone from living in poor 3rd world African countries; if whites hadn't pillaged and plundered these countries for their natural resources, those conditions wouldn't exist either. Please, read some history. A mind is a terrible thing to waste and a heart wasted on defensive hatred even worse.

First of all, you're not black, so you can't understand. Racial tensions are still present even within in our own race, because of what was done to us. We've been oppressed so much. It is true, that blacks should not talk about other races with impunity, but I think it makes us feel better about our own race. I never said it was right, but when you've been belittled for so long, you need a little something to make you feel better. Oh, and our ancestors were dragged off that boat! Don't make it seem like a privilege that were here. Sure I like America, but my ancestors went through some crap. I have right to be mad, and you can't understand that. Your generalization is a little racist. I think you meant well, but don't make assumptions about an entire group of people.

P.S.
Every black person doesn't pull the black card.

P.P.S.
To saq428...I was giving my opinion. Do you think hate white people? No. I'm just saying you aren't black. Don't crucify me because I say something you don't agree with. If you want to debate this saq428 through email, I will definitely take you own(gogowhoawhoa@yahoo.com). Give me yours, and we will debate. Don't do it on Yahoo!answers where I can't respond immediately. I don't hate any race and I don't blame whites, so don't get insulted. Don't accuse me of something totally untrue to my nature. Sorry, if you misunderstood, but email me, and I will be glad to clarify. I promise you I'm not going to be ignorant like some of these people on Yahoo!answers, and I am open to a new opinion. I will be happy to hear a different perspective, but don't get mad at me for something you misinterpreted.

I'm neither black, nor white, in fact, I'm mostly Hispanic.
But I've been subject to racism most of my life, because people thought I was white. I think it's because the African American people have been through some tough stuff several hundered years ago, and it wasn't right at all. It's human nature to hold a grudge, and there is virtually no logic in people holding grudges against people who never did anything to them. Most people can't look at the individual, and through the way they were raised, they learned what happened to their people, and the person explaining most likely referred to the oppressors as "the white people". Just about EVERYONE blames it on the white person. Next thing you know, they'll be yelling at Hispanics like me for raping and pillaging and destroying the Mayans or something. And I myself never did that. It's because PEOPLE ARE STUPID.
Also, not ALL African American people play the race card.
Also, brutal as this may be, if some other races are so fed up with "the white man oppressing them", how come they haven't left? Nobody's stopping them from leaving. I'm fed up with every other ethnicity yelling at me, but I haven't gone back to Japan or Guam, now have I?
P.S., I'm not racist, so I don't wanna hear CRAP.

Exactly why I never use he terms African -American, or any other hyphenated-American. PC has run amok and needs stopped.

Have you ever noticed that when a conservative opens his mouth to speak the factual truth, he is called "racist,"
"fascist," or "homophobe," but if guys like Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson say things that would be objectionable coming from anyone else, they are called "activists."

To Carissa...Were or are you a slave? Do you think it's ok for young black people in society now to bring up slavery as an issue as to why they don't like white people in general? Many young black men are indeed carrying a chip on their shoulder today that is not theirs to carry. They have never been slaves...I have never been a slave owner. Don't punish me for something I have never done, and you never went through. As far as I'm concerned, with every new generation, the slate is that much cleaner.

Some people believe racism and bigotry are different. Racism implies that the racist has the power to set policies in place to hold back and discriminate against an entire race of people like with slavery laws or Jim Crow laws.

That being said; I think the double standard needs to be stopped. The biggest thing that's always bothered me is that black comics can make jokes about whites, but if a white comic were to do the same, it's "racist." We need to explore that hypocrisy so that we can rise above it, because crap like this continues to isolate us from each other.

If a white person in my office were to come in and tell a racist joke, they'd be fired. If I were to do so, I may be spoken to about it, but that's about it, because I think management would be waiting for me to throw out the race card. A manager was having tons of issues with his employees last year, one day he flipped out on me and soon after he was gone. I heard that people were worried that I'd contact the EEOC. I just figured he as having a bad day and moved on.

It's an interesting dynamic. Thanks for posting the question, because this stuff needs to be discussed.

That's a very astute question. I have wondered the same thing my self. I think because each race is held to a different standard, and that is not fair to either race, in my humble opinion. If it isn't right for me to call a black person a bad name it should be just as bad for you a black person to call me a bad name.

I think many black "use" the excuse that they are black to show they are being suppressed. It's a cop out to keep from trying on their own merits. It's people who reach out and work at becoming educated and work at being a good decent person that gets anyone, black or white out of a slum or bad situation.

The person who sits around bemoaning their situation that doesn't get anywhere.

I have a feeling that you are someone who doesn't dwell on what your race is but someone who tries to better himself by education and working at being a better person.

Slavery for over 400 years was very real. Do a search in your search engine; the White people ever took pictures of the burned bodies of torture slaves, post cards were made; this embarrassed the postal service and it was stopped. If you or your family members were forced into slavery for hundred of years, brain washed into submission, I don't think you would have type what you typed?

1-some people are not happy unless they are bitching about something 2-they feel they have to have something or someone to blame all their problems on so they don't have to blame themselves.3-some blacks " NOT ALL " seem to think that the white people owe them something. If there was an american white college fund ,or something like that they would ***** about that and say it was racist even though there is an american ***** college fund. All I can say is you can't please everybody all the time. What ever happened to freedom of speech?

It's important to remember that your question itself is racist because you are generalizing a certain type of black person. Not all black people are like that and pull "the race card". As a matter of fact I have met plenty of black people who agree with your stance.
