S 10 Blazers don't normally have a TH400 trans.(three speed) The full sized Blazers usually have a TH 350 also a three speed.

maybe a 700R4 if four speed. and six cylinder.

Most kits run around $80-130.00 plus tourqe converter. (about $60-85.00) and more for performance kits by 1/2 to twice as much more.

Don’t know how good your buddy is at rebuilding transmissions. He better be pretty good at it. Unless you’re going to do something special to the transmission (Performance Valve body and clutch packs) you’re better off getting a remanufactured transmission from your auto parts store. That will come with a warranty of 30,000 miles most times. If your buddy rebuilds it and he misses something and the transmission fails you have to pay again for another rebuild kit and then the time to have him tear it down rebuild it and put it back together. Where if you get one from the auto parts store you just drop the old one out and put in the new one. Look if you trust him to rebuild it here are a few places to check out

other than tools and a good jack and jacks stands evrything you need should come in the kit and hard depends on how much experience you have rebuilding a transmission since you asked i'm thinking none and it really isnt a job for a novice mechanic thats why transmission shops charge so much

i own a shop ,and a good kit will cost you right at 100 bucks or more, everyone seems to have a good deal on these kits from one time to another but there's a lot of places to buy one at,you can buy the kit or him either one,it really don't make a difference ,he might be able to save you a few bucks on it though, good luck with it i hope this helps.
