I have seen tanks with dirt bottoms in them, however I would not recomend it unless you are an experienced keeper. Also, do not use clay pots since they tend to leach unwanted chemicals into your tank. Dirt really isn't needed in an aquarium. You can leave the aquarium plants in the pots they came in or remove them and burry their roots in the gravel. eiter way it is up to you.

I can't think of a method of getting the soil into the tank and under new gravel without making a horrible mess. The best suggestion I can come up with is to plant your material in clay flower pots, filled with sterile potting mix and covered over with gravel to keep the potting mix from floating out. The pots could be hidden behind rock-work or driftwood to maintain a natural look. Potting mix can be sterilized in an oven, but I can't remember the temperature or duration to achieve sterility. (probably is available somewhere on the net.) One plant that has responded well to this method for me is the Amazon Sword Plant.

Don't use soil! Use Onyx sand or Flourite both should be available at your local fish store. They are fine grade substrate that will allow the roots to establish themselves and has extra nutrients plants need.

You don't need soil in your tank for the plants to grow. All you need is something to anchor the plants, like gravel or plant anchoring devices like weights. Aquatic plants get their nutrients from the water itself (or the stuff that's IN the water).

Don't ever put soil in a tank that houses fish! You don't know what is in that soil and it could be fatal to your fish. Aquatic plants do not need soil to grow so why put it in your tank?

a million. move the fish in to seperate little baggies full of water then take the tank everywhere and sparkling it. 2. the flora will die they receives to overwatered and they're going to die yet when your comfortable with that then use genuine flora. 3. you desire a uv lamp for it to act like the uv rays that come off of the solar for the lants to reinforce. 4. i could not answer that one. 5. i imagine the female will be a difficulty the different fish would attempt to mate together with her yet except that that's an ok blend.

NO! Not potting soil. Get gravel at your pet store or aquarium sand.
