We bailed for POLITICAL reasons before we had accomplished the MISSION of freeing the South from Communisim. That was the "Goal" at the time even if it later proved to be bogus.

The "SPIN" at the time was Communisium was surrounding the US with their influence to choke off our allies and support until we were a virtual island. At 17 it made sense to me with my "vast" knowledge of world politics.

We bailed after over 57,000 US service people came home in bags and many more South Vietnamese were either slaughtered or re-educated.

We bailed on them due to the political situation and dermonstrations; we abandondoned those that wanted democracy and a better life.

Similar to Iraq because MANY South Vietnamese were COWARDS, wanted a GIFT and just would NOT step up for the long-term. The "war" was also filled with graft and corruption. does this have a similar ring to it? When the US did NOT have the TOTAL support of the citizens it turned to SH**; to many seeking their own personal or secratarian agendas.

I volunteered at a refuge camp because I spoke a little and it was atonement for my actions; I was able to finish my "personal war" by actually HELPING these poor souls that made it to the US after we bailed.

Some were pieces of SH** again looking for a free ride, but most just wanted to make a contribution and have a FREE LIFE in the US.

Vietnam was a failed war because the USA withdrew from the war without a decisive win. Basically turning the country over to the North Vietnamese.

Yes the USA entered into the war to "stop the spread of communism" But the late 1960's it became a very unpopular war. There were protests supporting the withdrawal from the war. Although we were there, there many restrictions placed up our troops in regard to engaging the enemy. Many of the South Vietmnamese were friendly to the enemy and hid them within their own homes and viliages. The way it was being fought for all intents and purposes it was winnable war because of the way it was being faught.

Least we forget there were over 58,000 American combat deaths.

No Communism is not dead. Cuba is still a communist country. As is North Korea and Vietnam. Chavez is trying to make Venezualia communist as well. The only country in my opinion that is successfully made communism "work" is China. Only because they have allowed private ownership of property and a certain amount of capitolism.

How do you feel that communism is alive in New York and California?

Vietnam was a failure because the American supported government of Vietnam was deposed succesfully by Ho Chi Minh's forces... the American embassy had to be abandoned and our troops had to leave Vietnam.

By saying we won because 20 years past the Soviet Union and its satellites collapsed is like saying the Indianapolis Colts won the Super Bowl in 2006, 2005, 2004, etc since they are champions today... that just does not make sense.

Also, California and New York are part of the United States... look them up in a almanac or atlas (and maybe a dictionary to get a definition of communism, I think you don't understand what that word really means).

We didn't stop the spread of communism in that particular conflict. The communists spread from North Vietnam to all of Vietnam. The Korean War, which served the same purpose (to stop the spread of communism), however, is viewed as a victory since communism did not spread to the entire Korean Peninsula.

I haven't heard that Vietnam is begging us for aid, but I have heard that American manufacturers have moved there. And Vietnam IS a communist nation. China IS a communist nation.
Cuba IS a communist nation. New York and California are states in this capitalist nation.
Henry Kissinger went to China in 1972 and told them that we
could tolerate a communist takeover of S. Vietnam as long as
they let us get out first. By every measure that you can imagine.,
Vietnam was a loss.

If "stopping communism" is the standard, then we lost: all of Vietnam became communist.

BTW: so is North Korea, China, and Cuba.

BTW (2): California and New York are not communist. Go look up the definition of communism.

Everyone begs for aid, then turns around and spits on us.

USA will never learn.

As for VietNam--it failed because the people of USA were sold a false bill of goods to justify the war with Agent Orange on our guys and theirs and last but not least-- an unlimited communist enemy supplies from the North (insurgents).

And who says history doesn't repeat itself??

USA will never learn.

Our goal was to keep the commies from taking over South Vietnam. They did take it over and we left, therefore we lost. Because of the terrible treatment of our soldiers that were prisoners in North Vietnam the US has used its economic cloat to make sure the commies have stayed isolated economically so they are as poor as dirt to this day. One of the few sources of income the commies had was to sell back the bodies of dead American soldiers they found in the jungles.

Obviously you have never been in CA or NY. I live in CA and its a great state in a great country.

Because so many people died and it was such a pointless war. Vietnam are asking for aid because they are having trouble feeding their population and supplying them with basic needs such as health care.

You seem rather wound up about the subject, don't forget America could of just walked away rather then drag all their allies into it. Australia lost many men in that stupid war but we still gave aid to Vietnam. It's time America got over its self
