I was throwing weed prevention granules out on a bed ready to be mulched today and the wind was blowing and it blew some of the particles into the small pond where the gold fish and 1 coy fish are. I did not see them eating any of it, but I was afraid they may die from it.

it is like Preen or Treflan , pre-emergent for bed areas.

I would watch your fish carefully for the next few days. Read the bottle of weed prevention. it should state if the weed killer is harmfull to animals and if poses any threat when entering into a water supply with fish or animals. If it tells you it is toxic, depending on how much actually blew into the pond, and what the toxic levels are, A partial water change may be necessary. Unfortunately some of these chemicals are time release and they can leach toxins into your pond over time.

Golf course lakes are much larger with fresh water supplied and a set aged biofilter allowing the toxins to leach out of the water. they are better equipped to take nitrogen and toxic run off from fertalizers and chemicals. Not to mention they are deluged with rain water on a continuous basis.

It could be harmless in small amounts to your fish, however If it were me, I wouldn't take the chance to loose any of my Koi or gold fish and would change 30% of the pond water and keep my eye on my fish for the next couple of days.

If you see them swimming or acting unusual, an immediate water change should be done.

It honostly depends how big the pond is. You might want to change a large portion of the water and remove whatever particles you can see. If your pond is over 300 gallons and you have a great filter and you do a 30 -50 percent water change your fish should be alright. Just how deadly is the poison or whatever it was you threw in there.

As long as it was only a few particles you don't really have anything to worry about. Far more than that gets into golf course ponds containing fish all of the time with no ill effects. I have seen it happen many times.
