What would MLK say to Sharpton and Jackson?

(I think if Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and all those who are protesting really want to make a difference - they should go to impoverished minority neighborhoods and mentor a child!!!!!! Sit and read a book to them!!! Teach them to value education so that they can change the cycle they have been born into - show them that they CAN be anything they want to be!!!!!!!)

To amazing - I am also a teacher, which is why I brought up this question. I also teach in a VERY poor neighborhood. I know that there are poor childen of all races. I realize that NCLB is set up to keep the status quo - rich man rich, poor man poor.

I am suggesting that Sharpton and Jackson put their energies where it would really make a difference - with the kids!!!!!

I think Dr. King would say "turn the other cheek" & ignore ridiculous remarks such as these. I'm wondering what Malcom X would have done about it!? Not a pretty thought. His motto was "by any means necessary"! Personally, I think that both Sharpton & Jackson have lost sight of the real issues that divided the races to begin with. They also seem to harbor a massive amount of hatred & mistrust for the white race as well as any other that is not Black. They just don't seem to actually want to have a better understanding of others, yet they EXPECT others to understand them on a moments notice, without question, with total & complete trust! Could they be abusing their religious ties & worldly trappings? Time will tell.

The girls Imus slandered are doing just that. I don't know their backgrounds, but they are all college students with aspirations. What is lost here is the Imus felt comfortable enough in our social climate today to think he could say that and get away with it.
I teach in impoverished neighborhoods. No Child Left Behind is ensuring that if there is any glimmer of intelligence in these children (and there is much) that it will be broken down by consistent failure on tests. The material is on average 3 years above the level of most grade school students (impoverished or not) and the district response is to fail them early and often. I have no choice but to teach a curriculum that is above the maturation and intellect of my students. All this is a ploy to pass a voucher system for the wealthy.
BTW: The students at my school, 90% of which qualify for free lunch which indicates that they are living below poverty level, are White, Black and Hispanic.
The real battle in our country is between the haves and the have nots. The chasm is getting broader every day. Imus is a clown and a distraction. Something else to divert our collective attention from the real issues of classism and poverty. All poor children are not minorities. Not by a long shot.

I actually have a historic previous Paper I wrote about Dr. King in my Jr. twelve months of faculty. I gained a ninety 9, and my Prof. wrote, "large study!" on proper because I had study such quite some books to jot down a sturdy paper. each and every twelve months I take it out and browse it aloud on the middle college right here on the city. The essay consists of how I felt at 14 at the same time as Dr. King became shot, how my mom and father reacted and tried to describe it to me... a very political little female who loved him very a lot. This twelve months I quite loved the reading because it became the fortieth Anniversary. that is always so touching to work out how passionately the 'tweens' react. Then all of us mild candles and characteristic white cupcakes with white frosting.

Better yet, why don't they go and take their millions to Africa and do some justice there??? Is it only the Whites to sacrifice and donate their $$$$$$$$$ to Africa? Put their money where their mouth is. Cry, cry, cry about how the Whites and every other race owes them. The black kids that goes to the same school as my child is the most troublesome. They don't even respect the Teacher's. Do you well educated Teacher's ever ask yourselves why the blacks are like that. I will tell you why, its because the Liberal Democrats made them like that. To make them feel and think that all Whites and other races owes them. Liberal Democrats in Office like to pretend they care for THEM, but do you see those Liberal hypocrites having them live next door to them? Or inviting them to join THEIR community? Or putting their kids in the same school as this LOW POVERTY black kids go to? So you are a Teacher, well explain why you won't let your kids hang out with them???

I annot speak for Dr. King but I will take a guess that he wouldn't be too happy with anyone who uses derrogatory terms whether in music, radio stations, syndicated prgrams, etc.. I like your idea tho

MLK was a christian and although stern in his actions, he went about with love and his faith in mind. There is really no place for his name anywhere around Al and Jesse.

He would ask him if he is the first or last to make such a comment. Then he would ask him to point out all the white girls on the team and ask his opinion as well.

He would probably make a speech with them. After all, he was against racism and ignorance too.
