Ok so my newest reef tank is about 5 mounths old. I have corals from mushrooms, star polyps, xenia, button polyps and a few sps frags I threw in. I have 2 leather corals also in this tank. One is a fiji leather and the other is a finger leather. Now I recently put the fiji leather in and it is at least 6" from the finger leather. It appears they are adversly effecting each other though. I have watched them with the lights out and the trailers from the fiji do not touch the finger leather at all. I have altered the currents in the aquarium so the finger leather is not downstream of the fiji anymore but it still appears they are at odds. I really want both of these in the same tank and their placement is perfect for color and general look of the tank. Anyone ever experience a difficulty keeping these leathers this distance from each other? I was considering moving the finger leather down about 4" but keeping it in the same general location to see if that makes a differance.

I hate to tell you this but your are going to have to move these two leather corals more then just a few inches. Try like one of one side of the tank and one on the other side. If you don't one of them will continue to sting the other until one of them dies. They are very aggressive when it comes to other leather type corals.

to tell youthe truth when it comes to a reef tank and corals, it isn't always about what you want and how you want it to look. you are going to have to move one of the two corals even if it is only 4 inches.

try moving the finger leather farther away. 4 inches may not be enough. Even though most people do not believe corals are living animals they are and they will still compete for light, food and space. try moving 4 inches. See what happens.

Well man, especially when it comes to saltwater reef tanks, it is extremely difficult to keep coral. I think you should move the thing much farther atleast 8 inches and watch it. See if it interacts with anything else. Coral reef tanks are just a blend of every type of color and im sure it wont make a difference

just about all corals are territorial in some way or yet another, some will in simple terms advance so without put off and over advance others. some will actively attack something that gets too close. some exude a chemical which would be poisonous to different corals. the secret is to grant area and watch the upward thrust and regulate as necessary. you will ought to analyze and decide which you have room for and area them wisely,

It's quite possible that you will have to move one of the protagonists out of the tank. Some corals are just not compatible.
