Anyone both seen the movie and followed the tv series?

I live 90 miles from the school the movie was about and my high school (i was in the 9th grade at that time), was in the playoffs (last year they were in for several years).

the tv show seemed to follow the same story line for the season: a coach that no one knows if they can trust, a hurt major player from the beggining, players with various problems they face on and off the field.

What do you think of the two?

The main difference between the movie and the show, other than the obvious difference in players and storyline, is that the movie won people over with kids playing football, not for the fun of the game, but for their town and each other. The show focused on the teenie drama conflicts common to all primetime dramas.

therefore, I have more admiration towards the movie, since it was real, gritty and genuine. I didn't really like the show because it cast actors that were too good looking and too old to be high school football players in west texas.

However, the Book by H.G. Bissinger is far better than the movie and show. I believe that the story of the 1988 Permian High school football team is interesting enough and shouldn't have to be exaggerated or changed to suit the general audience's tastes. It's sad to see something as genuine and real selling out like it did with the tv show.

I really enjoyed the movie when it came out. When I heard there was a TV show in the makings with the same story in mind I was real excited. When the show premiered though, I couldn't get into it at all. I found the camera work strange and the dialogue weak.Didn't really care for anything. Boy I was disappointed . I watched it once or twice and didn't enjoy it at all. Maybe I gave up too early but it just didn't grip me like the movie did.
