Marie Antoinette was queen during the French Revolution. During her reign the common people revolved, and most of the French ruling class was beheaded simply because they were the ruling class. It was a time of "mob rule", and she was one of many victims of the "mob".

Basically it's the age old story of a class system clash. The royalty of France (and especially Marie Antoinette) were niave and sheltered to the lives of the "normal" people. The "normal" middle and low classes felt detached by their upper ruling class. But since the majority of France was of the lower classes and problems were occurring prior to the French Revolution the majority ruled. I think in this case and she was beheaded.

Marie Antoinette was the queen of France during the french revolution. When she and her family tried to flee from France because they were going to put to trial for not helping the country, they were caught. They were all put in jail and accused of treason. The penalty for treason was the guillotine so Marie Antoinette and her family were put to death.

I would direct you to the Wikipedia article on her at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Antoinette.

Basically the French peasants who seized power saw her as a symbol of the corrupt nobles and put her to death as a political statement.
