i've noticed on YA the racism going on here. my question is this. as black people (not all black people, only the ones that feel that "whites" should pay) do you think people will have a possitve outlook on you for feeling that way? how is that a positive way of constucting your race? and do you really feel that people born in the past 30 years should pay for their ancestors? is it right to pay for someone elses sins? when most of us don't even know our ancestors or what they did, who they even are? personally my ancestors as far as i know two generations ago they were living in Russia.

or should people. put the past behind them and grow and learn from it? and seperate themselves from hate in there hearts form a bunch of horrible dead white people

let me know your thoughts.

Ruthy, it's true there is present day racism. all one can do is hold thier heads up high and keep showing good examples to all children. that racism can be stopped. if we all lead healthy non racial lives. trust me one day most racism will be deminished if we all do our part. (me i have mixed children, and teach them that any kind of racism should not be tollerated.)

As a black and white person, I'd say that you are correct. We should move forward, and not focus on what we "deserve." But we should not ignore the fact of present-day racism. It was not a generation ago, that my parents were not allowed in the same school.

You shouldn't be forced to write a check to some random black person, but the taxes that we all pay should go toward social programs to improve education in poor neighborhoods. You can't just sweep the past under the rug if you're still seeing the effects of it. You make it so that everyone truly is born on an even playing field, then you write off slavery and racism as relics of history.

That's a human trend. If you smell an easy buck, go for it. It doesn't have to make sense, just give me the money.
My grandparents didn't come to America until long after slavery was abolished. The slaves were not government property, all the plantations were privately owned. If anything is owed it's owed by the ones who benefited from having slaves. My ancestors suffered under the thumbs of the royalty and nobility of greedy Europeans. Slaves cost money and were better cared for.

Doesn't matter in this forum. All this '***_ger' and 'monkey' stuff is constant and unprovoked. Not many topics here begin with 'White people are this and that'...but the hatred against black people is unending. How many times do we see someone ask about black culture that has nothing to do with race and see '***_ger' thrown out 3-4 times in response.

i as a black person do not think that whites should "pay" however, in the same sense of that question i ask why do many whites still view themselves as superior. honestly, i don't think blacks would be viewed as "angry" if we were truly treated equally. NEWS FLASH!!! blacks are still not treated equally in this "equal and just" society but i think that is for all minorities. I dont ever think that the USA will be totally equal and just because it was never intended to be in the first place.

For the most part (African American) people don't go around saying I don't like white people because your ancestors KIDNAPPED, BEAT, RAPPED, and ENSLAVED our ancestors I think only when a racial comment or the topic comes up. And it's not the past it's still going on. You should forgive but your should never forget where you come from.

I'm black and feel that some whites would support slavery if they could get away with it. I don't think that this generation should pay for the past. I'd be the one who wouldn't get anything. I'm an ordinary person with no connections!

There is no need for racism here or anywhere else. Let's all go forward, quit looking back and blaming people for what we know nothing about. Let's all try to live in harmony and peace.

Dude you can't win this. I tried the same thing and got nothing but hate from the black people than answered (except one). It's to hot of a topic. Kudos for trying though!

You are right and I do not blame white people for something that happened years ago. I speak from experience they way that I am treated and things that has happened to me involving white people. I do not hate anyone however, if you have done something to me I do not like that individual. I know that they are good people out there...
