Not generally. She'd be more likely to get pregnant on the 14-16th day of her cycle, or a week after the last day of her period. That doesn't mean it's not POSSIBLE...but it isn't as high a chance as it could be.

Geez, seems like there is a lot of misinformed people out there. Technically, yes a woman can get pregnant anytime she has sex. Practically, the majority of women are infertile from the week before until about a week after her period. Obviously everyone is different but one thing most people have in common is the timing of ovulation (egg released). This happens about 12-14 days before she gets her period regardless of the length of her cycle. The egg can only survive for 12-24 hours at the most and so must be fertilized in this time frame for conception to occur. But sperm can live up to 5 days (2 or 3 for most men) inside the woman and so unprotected sex a few days before ovulation can also cause a pregnancy. So to answer your question - most women will not be fertile the day after their period. They probably won't even ovulate until about a week after their period. But there are always exceptions to the rule so ALWAYS use protection if pregnancy is not desired.

A woman is fertile--meaning she can get pregnant--while an egg is in the fallopian tube. The sperm can live inside a woman for up to 5 to 7 days, so it's possible to get pregnant when you have sex several days before you ovulate because the sperm will be there already waiting for the egg. Likewise, the egg will survive (unfertilized) 24-48 hours after ovulation, so you can easily get pregnant during that time.

This means women are most likely to get pregnant for the two weeks in the middle of their cycle. In other words, one week after their last period started until one week before their next is the most likely time.

However, women's cycle's can be different! We've told you the "textbook" version of how most women's bodies work, not everyone's. Even though ovulation normally happens in the middle of the month, a woman can ovulate at any time. Many things make our cycles change, including changes in diet, changes in the environment and stress.

A woman has to ovulate to get pregnant. Ovulation usually occurs halfway through a normal 28 cycle -- day 14 -- but it can be off a day or two or can change month to month. Some women have cycles shorter than 28 days and some have cycles longer. Also, sperm can live for up to 72 hours in a woman's body, so if you have sex the day after her period ends, she could still get pregnant even though she won't ovulate for a few more days. After ovulation, the egg has approximately 24 hours in which to get fertilized or it will start to break down and the body will begin to prepare itself for menstruation.

You can even get pregnant on your period, although that is less likely, it has happened. You can read the below website for answers about becoming pregnant even during your period. One lady states she became pregnant during her cycle. I believe there are exceptions to every rule. I also copied and pasted another website.

Your most fertile days are mid-cycle.

Ovulation occurs around the middle of a woman's cycle (specifically, in the middle third): If you have a 28-day cycle, for example, then you'll usually ovulate on the 14th day, counting the first day of your period as the first day of your cycle. If your period lasts seven or eight days, by the time you finish menstruating you're only five or six days away from ovulating. If you consider that sperm can live in the fallopian tube for two or three days, then you have a narrow window in which you could get pregnant if you ovulated a little earlier than normal. If you're not actively trying to get pregnant, it's always safer to use reliable contraception when you have sex, no matter when in it is during your cycle.http://www.babycenter.com/expert/preconception/gettingpregnant/7094.html

A woman can get pregnant ANYTIME of the month she has unproteced sex. It can be before, after or even during her period depending upon when and how many times she ovulates. There is proof nowadays that many women ovulate more than once a month, they just don't notice.

There is NO day of the month when you can't get pregnant. Human fertility follows a curve from low probability to higher but is never zero. The lowest chance is during mentral flow and the highest between flows. That is why it is the only "method" of contraception the Catholic church accepts.

you only get pregnant right before you normally would have your period.

periods happen because the egg leaves the body because it's been out too long... so the body flushes everything out.

and the thing that makes the girl pregnant is the fact that the egg is there, so generaly you get pregnant a few days before the period... while the egg is there, and before it gets whatevered out
