fuel filter will not effect your fuel economy, but s tune up and air filter may be in order. when was the last time you had the plugs changed? aside from that, i am curios about the efficiency of the tranny, is it slipping possibly?

there are many reasons my friend. Make sure you have the correct tire pressure, id reccomend a k&n air filter, change to synthetic oil, get the 44k fuel injector cleaner(stuff you put into your gas tank), get new spark plugs, timing could be off, driving in stop and go traffic considering you use more fuel when you accelerate than if you were to just keep up a constant speed. keep your rpm's below 2400. Extra weight in the vehicle has a major effect of gas mileage too. I HOPE THIS HELPS MAN!!! good LUCK!!

I had the same truck with fewer miles getting very bad mileage. First of all, Ford trucks are geared very high and get bad gas mileage anyway. Secondly, my problem was blow-by, this is when either your valve seats wear out or piston rings wear out. Neither one is really a cheap fix...
Good luck with your issue..

change your spark plugs it makes a difference and check your sensors if one of the sensors isnt working your car will mess up also get a new fitler also you might need to put gas cleaner go to your local auto-zone just dump it into the gas tank this will really help, use it once a month if you use it more than that you might wear out the gas line

Aka listed the most probable answer, but you may also want to change your air filter and PCV valve and get a tune up.

have you tried a tune up..................yeah ....that,s something you used to have to do often.........but at your mileage......a tune up is in order...................doe,s it use a lot of oil?..........may just be getting worn out........have a compression test done......all considered that,s really not bad mileage .......considering the mile,s on the vehicle.....good luck!
