funny. O was just reading about this and posted my own question about chest pains.

This is what I read:
hawthorn (slow acting but reliable. dont expect results for like a month)

ginkgo biloba

Garlic (cheapest way is to eat one raw clove a day, but it burns the mouth a bit [also it is natures antibiotic!!!!])

Rauwolfia (SMALL dose! Very good! nasal congestion is the most liekyl side effect. [I havent taken Rauwolfia, but I do take natures way "fenu-thyme" for sinus congestion. it may counter act the symptom from rauwolfia])

Motherwort

Goji juice

herbal diuretics (reduce salt and fluids in the body, so the heart has less moisture to move around=lowers blood pressure. These include: dandelion, willow, red clover, alfalfa)

Vitamin E (but not over 100 IU for women with high blood pressure, and other such probs)

................................................
siberian ginseng can help to lower high bp, but chinese ginseng raises it
..............................................
reduce salt
get to a healthy weight
excercise (under doctors plan. nothing too big too fast!)
relaxation
biofeedback (using the mind to help control the body)
blood thinners, like aspirin
...................................................
Potassium is good for this! it is found in the following (I only wrote down in my notebook the things I was willing to eat, so this list is not exhaustive):
apricots (dried)
banana (raw)
cantalope
kiwi
honey dew
lima beans
orange juice
pers
peanuts (dry roasted and unsalted)
baked potatoe ( with the skin)
.............................................
unrefined and unprocessed foods. Like wheat bread over white bread (the chemical process to make bred whit is terrible!)
garlic, onion, whole grains, FLAX SEED (preferably in grain form, but the liquid can be used as well)
...................................................
Avoid dairy as much as possible
...................................................
coenzyme Q-10
...................................................
Lastly I do have to say that with any advice you get, research those herbs several times to make sure they will be safe.

hope all goes well,
sammie

Lose weight. Even a few extra pounds can raise blood pressure.
Walk or do some other form of aerobic exercise regularly.
Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products; reduce fat and salt intake. A new study found such a diet may be an alternative to prescription drugs for mild hypertension.

If you have mild hypertension, you may want to try lifestyle changes and supplements before turning to prescription drugs, which often have unpleasant side effects. Begin a two or three-month trial with supplements. If your blood pressure drops, you can use the supplements indefinitely. If your blood pressure doesn't respond, you may need prescription antihypertensive drugs. If you already take such medication, don't stop or reduce your dose without your doctor's approval.

Calcium/Magnesium: 1,000 mg calcium and 500 mg magnesium a day. Do not use magnesium if you have kidney disease.

Vitamin C : 1,000 mg 3 times a day. Reduce dose if diarrhea develops.

Coenzyme Q10 : 50 mg twice a day.
For best absorption, take with food.

Essential Fatty Acids:1 tbsp. (14 grams) flaxseed oil a day; 1,000 mg fish oils 3 times a day.
Take fish oils if you don't eat fish at least twice a week.

Hawthorn:100-150 mg 3 times a day. Standardized to contain at least 1.8% vitexin.

Taurine: 500 mg L-taurine twice a day on an empty stomach. If using longer than 1 month, add mixed amino acids.

Arginine: 1,000 mg L-arginine twice a day on an empty stomach. Take with a mixed amino acid complex.

It would be wise to lower her cholesterol level. This could be done by seeing a doctor who would check it regularly and recommend dietary changes for her benefit.

It can be done, but it involves a real committment to a healthier diet. The foods we eat are very important in determining our blood pressure, because certain foods will cause a build-up of fatty particles in our arteries. It could take months, even years to change it, but the effects of a healthier diet will be noticed very quickly.

Herbal remedies are chancy; when it comes to something that involves a heart risk like high blood pressure, the best thing is to deal with a doctor and work it out in her own best interests. Take Care! All the best as your wife deals with this!

I am a student in Pharmacy school. My best advice to you is to keep your wife on prescribed dosages from her doctor. No known herbal remedy can lower blood pressure. If the problem becomes money and she can,t afford the tablets, there are plenty of generics avaliable, just politely ask the pharmacist about them.

Read the earth clinic natural cures website regarding, honey, apple cider vinegar, plain water, and cayenne pepper. I use all of the above and my blood pressure is normal after 30 years. I believe apple cider vinegar is the best because it has made my mood swings disappear. I have lots and lots of energy. Vinegar has 93 vitamins and minerals. Buy the book: you're not sick, you're thirsty. I drink 2-3 gallons of water per day now. 6-8 glasses of water is good for her. I eat salt on my food and I have no swelling whatsoever. I know people say do not eat salt but the water washes away the salt. We need salt for our bodies.
