Sadly, Tokai's copy-cat guitars are very good. They basically reproduced the Sunburst from the late 50's without permission and began selling them. Eventually, Gibson sued them for this transgression, but the Tokai versions had already gained admirers and even the subsequent victory by Gibson to have Tokai change the necks on their guitars didn't make much difference. As a result, these guitars are quite popular and hold their value quite well. Personally, I would never buy one as the blatant patent infringement bothers the hell out of me, but to each his own.

Yes I have a 36 year old Ibanez Telecaster and its great! The guitar is older than I am and still sounds amazing. Although I'm pretty sure they don't make them like they used to. If you can afford to spend a bit of cash look into the famous 'lawsuit' guitars. Ibanez basically made copies of gibson and fender guitars and change only a tiny part of its appearance to avoid copyright issues. These copies were so good and much cheaper than originals that they quickly began outselling fender and gibson in the states. After the lawsuits Ibanez were forced to change more and lower the quality of their copies, but thats when they began to produce original guitars using the skills they had learned copying Fender and Gibson. Which turned out to be great guitars in their own right Bottom line, if you want to buy one thats a copy buy an old one. If you want a brand new one, get an Ibanez original
