Its not about what school you go to or who teeaches you. Its about the energy and passion you bring to the project. Start at home really feeling many of the emotions. dont look liek you are acting. be natural.. as someone else!! and take chances. make faces.. do karyoke (sp?). Start doing local palys (everywhere has them). then when you are ready to move to la or new york!

Go to college.

The old fable of people being discovered in Hollywood coffee shops and getting a big starring role in a film is just that: old, and a fable. The reality is that actors today get into the profession one of two ways:

1) For the great majority, they go to college and earn at least a BFA degree in performance. Then they continue to take acting, voice and movement lessons after moving to a big theatrical center (NYC, LA, etc.), while scrapping like mad to pay bills and make open auditions until you earn the union card. (Some college BFA programs--Yale and Maryland are two I know of--give you an equity card when you graduate, which is a little like winning the lotto.)

2) A few people get famous in something else and then turn into actors. Models like Berry or Imam or Leslie Parrish. Jocks like Schwartzenegger, Lyle Alzado, Shaq. Pro wrestlers, Hulkster and the Rock. Etc.

I'd say #1 is your best bet; look to enter the best acting program you can in whatever universities you qualify for (or start at a community college to finish general ed. cheaper, then transfer). Trust me, you may be super-talented but without depth of knowledge, versatility, and a thorough understanding of show business, your odds will be slim indeed.

tr was right on! Start where you are. You don't need a lot of money. And don't think that others have money. It only seems
that other people have advantages financial or otherwise. Everyone struggles and everyone who enjoys success had to work for it. If you want to, you'll find a way to get your training.
I get the idea that you really want to work at this and you are a lot more realistic than a lot of people who post here. Especially the kids. I wish you all the best and good luck!

Call the community college in your city and ask where you can take acting lessons, that are not expensive.
