Can anyone just get copies of someone's 'copywritten' work from the copyright office? I just received a letter from a lawyer (not mine) saying he received a copy of my script through the copyright office, is this legit?

I didn't think they could without my permission or court order.

If they couldn't, how could they determine if another work violated your copyright?

In a word. "Yes." If its registered, there's a copy at the Library of COngress.
