I poured some straight into the bowl to get rid of some mildew that is developing at the bottom. Is this ok for the toilet or will it tear up the rubber rings and things? Could I put some in the tank or would that be worse? I left it there for a few minutes and then flushed it out. It cleaned it just fine but I don't want to keep doing it if it will hurt the toilet.

The bleach will be ok for the toilet bowl. I do not recommend putting the bleach down the tank.

In the bowl, bleach is fine. Using bleach or any of the drop in cleaners for the tank rot away at rubber gaskets and you'll end up with leaks.

Bleach is ok for the toilet bowl, but I wouldn't recommend putting it in the tank cause it could damage the rubber seals of the gasket and delicate plastic parts that are used for the fill switch.

I use baking soda and a little ammonia sometimes for my toilet bowl. It works great and baking soda is non-toxic, unlike bleach.

Baking soda also keeps rust and hard water stains from reforming in your toilet bowl

I use straight bleach in the toilet bowl all the time. I have yet to find it hurting anything. In the tank though, that'd be a different story. They do make those Clorox toilet bowl tablet things that can go in the tank if you want to try that.

NO! Bleach contains chlorine, a toxic chemical that when used in toilets, eventually goes into our rivers and water systems to make our drinking water even more dangerous. Never use chlorine bleach in a toilet, bathtub,or basin if you have a septic system because the toxic chemicals will destroy the beneficial bacteria in the septic tank, defeating the action and function of the system. There are non-toxic cleaning agents available that will do the job equally well. Our national sewer system is the worst possible means of waste disposal, dumping all our waste, after being treated with toxic chemicals, into our rivers, which are the sources of many public water supplies. If there is sufficient land space available, the septic system is the most efficient, and environmentally sound systems to dispose of waste. The soil is the best filter on earth.

Clean away, bleach is fine, and in fact it's a really good toilet cleaner that won't harm anything in the bowl or the tank.

Pour a 2 litre bottle of Coca-Cola in the bowl (not diet) and let it set over night. That works better than bleach and is safer.
Also, I would use a regular mildew remover rather than bleach.

If you put it in the back of toilet tank, let it sit for 10 minutes and then flush.

Also you can pour it straight into the toilet or sink, or bathtub.
It's the same thing as Mildew and Mold cleaners.

just don't get any splash on your clothes, and warn others that you are having a "bleach party".

Either you can use bleach or peroxide. Do not put it into the top, put it into the bowl. You can even put it overnite! When u wake up in the morning, flush after using the brush to clean the unseen. Don't put more than 1/2 cup.

In the bowl should not be a problem - not a plumber here. In the tank, maybe not a good idea as there are plastic / rubber objects in there. Beneath the bowl is (usually) only bee's wax and bleach should not harm that.

Clean it the way you are using. Should not be a problem by my understanding.
