Superman got Carpal Tunnel Syndrome back in 1992.
Oh he can still make diamonds from coal, he just doesn't use his hands anymore...and most people don't want to touch diamonds made by Superman's sphincter.

Because Superman charges more for a visit than Michael Jackson and thats $3000.00 per 30 seconds. Cheaper to buy a diamond.

Superman does it as a stunt but as a good Super-Citizen he does not want to devalue the diamond.
Plus his would be more akin to lab created ones.

Lois Lane got sick and tired of him making precious gems for every Tom, Dick and Harry that was having a bad day. She told him that he either had to stop, or he'd be getting a LOT more solitude in the Fortress of Solitude, if you get my drift.
