The "qwerrty" Keyboard, named from the first six letters of the layout. Are layed out according to frequency of usage. the most commonly used letters in the center and then least common in the harder to reach places. Intended to make it easier to type faster. Typing using the home keys(the F and J keys marked with a short bump or line so the typest can feel the home keys) makes more sence, Also thats why the ergonomic keyboards are split in the middle. So that you can type with your wrist straight instead of angled outward.
Originally, the characters on the typewriters he invented were arranged alphabetically

the guy who invented the keyboard gathered information on which letters are used the most (like in wheel of fortune, when the contestants are playing for the big prize they get the letters r,s,t,l,n,e cuz they're common). when typing those letters your fingers don't have to move around the board as much.
the reason is that back when typewriters were first invented, it was researched what the fastest arrangement for the keys would be. I believe this was called the dvorak keyboard. anyway, early typewriters weren't able to type very fast and so they would jam up a lot. so another arrangement had to be found, only this time it had to be the least efficient so that people would type slower, and thus cause less jams. that is how we got the 'qwerty' keyboard that we still use today.
Back in the days.....it was in alphabetical order.

the arrangement of keys, usually called a QWERTY layout because of the upper left row of keys was developed for the early mechanical typewriter keyboards. It is intended to cause the typist to pace his or her keystrokes in such a way as to prevent the key hammers from getting crossed.
The arrangement is intentionally a little bet less then ideal. It isn't intended to maximize speed, but is more intended to proportionally space keystrokes across the keyboard.
Since most of the keyboards we deal with today don't actuate mechanical hammers, some people have advocated the adoption of the Dvorak keyboard that features a layout that truly would make typing faster and more efficient. People have been campaigning for it for over 20 years, with no real progress. The Qwerty keyboard is pretty entrenched, at this point.
The numerical keys are in sequence because there is no statistical bias for the usage of any particular numerical keys, so it makes the most sense just to put them in sequence. That is, you use all the number keys about the same amount each, in no particular order, so the QWERTY strategy doesn't apply.

Since the old style typewriters had the the arms which came up and struck the ink ribbon, the most common letters were placed in such a way that these arms did not interfere with each other.

Because when the person made it, they were too lazy to put them in order so they jsut remembered the alphabet randomly and did that way.
OR maybe we learned the alphabet wrong and the keys on the keyboard are in order!
All that A,B,C,D,E,F... is a bunch of crap.....
NAH!! JUST PLAYIN!!! I DONT KNOW THE ANSWER!!!

I think Q is first because it stands for queen and queen is kinda bigger than king and then wertyui etc. are not very big letters. I am not very sure but I think it is a very good question you asked. Someone might have invented the keyboard like this.

The keys are strategically placed in an arrangement of how frequently letters occur in the english language. Frequently used letters are easily accesible while letters such as q z and x are in the corners and not easily accessible because they are rarely needed.

It's supposed to put the most used keys in the most convenient spots. I think there might be a setting to change it to alphabetical, but the labels on the keys will stay qwerty so it'll be awkward.

They are in order of what letter people type most,. You can see that on the vowels, nearly all vowels are on the first row.
