Something that starts with R... how about a reverse fault?

A reverse fault is when the hanging wall moves up with respect to the foot wall. They occur in areas of compression.

A richterscale is a graphic representation on a chart that indicates how hard an earthquake hits. The more the movement, the higher on the scale it is. This is a very good site to learn more about earthquakes and how they work. If you click on about earthquakes, it will explain what a seismograph is and how it is used to determine what the richter scale of an earthquake is. I hope this helps,

The Richter scale is a measure of energy and thus a graph of it can be drawn on special graph paper that is exponential, since the scale is exponential. Other 'r" words associated with earthquakes could include "rebound" since the quakes are the result of the elastic rebound of rocks as the pent up energy is released.
