Even when we're not angry we say the words. What is the motive?
And why are curse words bad words? Who said they were bad?

Fun Fact: Swear words are the only words that correspond with activity in the right side (aka creative side) of the brain.

We use swear words as a direct, emotional response. That is why we cuss when hurt or angry and even during sex, because they are directly linked to our emotions rather than our intellect.

I think that casual swearing might come in when a person is more relaxed in their environment and able to be more honest with their true emotions and thus with the words associated with them. I've noticed people swear less comfortably when they lie.

Why are they bad? I would wager that it is once again the association with emotion and lack of reservedness. 'Nice' is often associated with 'reserved'. Note that I am not an expert and all of these are guesses based on what I wrote at the top.

The people who research these things tell us that cursing (along with the emotional outburst) is a result of humans needing a non-destructive way of venting their anger. For most of us, this works quite well. If I hit my thumb with a hammer while hanging a picture, the resulting tirade of cuss words that can be heard in the next county has prevented the wall from being punctured by numerous hammer blows.

On the other hand, the use of profanity during normal conversation is usually attributed to an individuals upbringing and/or a lack of education. When a person has a limited vocabulary and he wants to stress a point or grab attention, he will use a profane word or expression in place of a proper adjective or phrase. He knows no other way to express himself. If the parents of an individual continually used profanity in front of him, sub-consciously, these words had no special meaning other than the way they were used. So, it became a habit of normalcy.

Why are there cuss words and who says so? A very good question! I'm guessing here but I assume that, way back when humans began to communicate, there were some words that were associated with discusting things. So, they identified those as words that should be avoided. As society blossomed and people became cultured, more and more words were added to this list. Finally, youngsters, as they do even today, rebelled and gave these "no-no" words other words of their own. Taa-Daa... We now have a bunch of cuss words!!

As young children, we become conditioned to what adults say. We pick up words, very quickly when we are young, then we see the actions of someone using a bad word, and we imitate it. We did not make up these words, we learned them from the older generation. Now that everybody is conditioned to say these horrible words when we are mad, is because we learned all of this at an early age. Look up what conditioning means, and you will see, it is brainwashing. Monkey see, monkey do, as they used to say. There is of course good conditioning we learn, such as cleanliness, good habits and manners, focusing on our goals, etc. , etc. but unfortunately, that is how we got, and use cuss words. I did see a TV show in which this woman could not speak without using cuss words, in her every sentence. She did not know why she would speak like this, but she had to seek professional help, to stop. Cuss words, are just words, so why do people object. Because they are not proper in our language, they sometimes show disrespect to God, and they do not belong in our culture.

Because it would be funny if you spoke punctuation!!! I really think it's because people have forgotten how to speak properly-how to get your point across WITHOUT those words!! It's pretty lazy, instead of using a more descriptive proper word, (that would require education past highschool), they just slap in a damn or two....I wish I didn't curse as much.

Some one once told me that God encourages swearing as a stress reliever. That is my excuse whenever I curse.
