My old headshots just don't look like me anymore, so in a week or two I'm seeing a photographer friend and taking new ones. Tips?

My tip: Make 100% sure that the sign on the door says "photographer for hire" and not "assassin for hire".

Make sure the photographer specializes in actor headshots only and he's not just a "guy with a camera!"

When doing shots, try to drink water in-between. That way you won't be as hungover the next day. Also, stay away from the multiple beverage shots. Try to just drink clear distilled spirits. Examples include: Vodka. Some physicians report that doing shots is not healthy. It is recommended that you eat carrots the following day. I sincerely hope that this helps you with a beneficial outcome.

Meet with the photographer a day or two before the photos are taken so he or she can get a sense of who you are.

Get a good night's rest the night before you get your shots.

Don't schedule the shoot for either too early or too late in the day.

Don't wear any patterned clothing. Solid colors are your best bets.

Good luck!

Relax in front of the camera. Be yourself. Depending on what type of equipment your friend has, try to do some candids & in motion shots. I'm not talking big action, but try talking to your friend about whatever you talk about, & have him snap mid-motion. I got some great shots that way. Keep your eyes open but relaxed. Don't be afraid to hit some interesting poses & facial expressions. Bring more than one outfit. Make it a big photo shoot. Pretend you're already a big star. Don't stop until you're satisfied.
